As Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint heads towards its first anniversary, the label prepares to welcome
back a frequent contributor in the form of Berlin-based techno titan Alex Stein. With an impressive
catalogue of releases on many of the genre’s most-respected labels, Stein makes his first solo
release on VOLTA with a masterful display of diversely captivating techno prowess in the form of
“Tunnel Vision” – an all-encompassing three-track EP.
Starting with the title cut, “Tunnel Vision” is a pacy, dancefloor-ready, melodic masterclass. Riding
a tide of arpeggiating musical elements from the outset, this combination of futuristic techno,
electro and breakbeat, which comes packed to the hilt with firm grooves, interplanetary vocals
and ripping sonics, will have you energised and moving from start to finish with ease.
“Dopemine” comes next, cutting a darker, more assertive line. Another stellar exhibition of robust
drum sequencing and gripping musical arrangement keeps you locked into this vampiric acid
techno stomper as it continuously cranks up the heat.
The release ends on “Reson8”, completing the trifecta of potent mainstage techno warheads. A
duck and dive of rippling bass and thumping drums, laced with fleeting ominous vocals and hissing
percussive drive, combining to carve out a high-octane peak-time bomb.
