With each new release crafted, Blaufield Music founders Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, aka Booka Shade, continue to craft and reshape their sound while remaining true to its signature tones and trademark nuances. Following the release of their 2024 album ‘Link To The Invisible’, and following another action-packed summer of live dates, the legendary pairing returns with their latest studio work – this time channelling early influences from the 80s for a fresh two-tracker, ‘(Neon Lights) They Glow / Reflector’.
“We went through our old vinyl record collection and were fascinated again by the Electronic Body Music compilations we bought in the mid-80s with acts like Front 242, The Neon Judgement, Fad Gadget or Liaisons Dangereuses. Our new EP ‘(Neon Lights) They Glow / Reflector’ is our 2024 translation of the sound which brought us to electronic music in the first place… Never forget: be different.” – Booka Shade.
Lead track ‘(Neon Lights) They Glow)’ is a chugging, menacing and trippy production that merges brooding synths and a driving bassline with swirling leads and hooky vocals throughout, while ‘Reflector’ is an all-action, zipping and bubbling production combining playful tones and skittering grooves. To close, the pair revisit the opening production to deliver a ‘Mixture Dangereuse’ interpretation, leaning into the hypnotic nature for another late-hours journey through powerful soundscapes.
