It’s been a nonstop year for Boom Merchant who continues to release driving techno tracks that combine intense energy and infectious hooks. Originally from Ireland, and currently based in Mexico, he has been galvanising support from techno fans across the northern hemisphere.
Tribal Pulse is a record label that Boom Merchant frequents with his own music, but he has also released on other record labels ranging from LaLa’s Brand New Records to T78’s Autektone.
“Suena Bien” is the EP’s title track, and it layers cascading melodies with the churning drum rhythms that are trademark to Boom Merchant’s style. It’s a mesmerising track that leads you down the rabbit hole with its trippy vibe.
“Sparkle” has the crunching tones of lo-fi percussion combining with an acid house piano riff and gospel vocals reminiscent of Robert Hood’s Floorplan alias. It’s a standout track combining uplifting elements with the ruthless intensity of a moody groove.
“Fourth Wind” has a hammering kick drum and plinking percussion layered with a throbbing bassline. It has gritty textures that loop to give the track a hypnotic groove with a relentless momentum that subsides only for a short breakdown section.
“Red Sun Dub” has sparkling textures washing over pounding drums that lay a foundation for a hands in the air synth line with old-school vibes and hard dance undertones. The breakdown introduces an angelic vocal that complements the subtle euphoria of the lead synth.
