The High-Tech Minimal pioneer will play his last festival season in 2027 before closign the book with his Becoming the Joker headline tour.
Boris Brejcha is hanging up the mask. In a video posted to his social channels on October 24, the German DJ/producer announced that 2028 will be his final year as an artist. Brejcha will play festivals for the last time in 2027 before embarking on one final headline tour the following year, the Last Chapter: Becoming the Joker Tour 2028.
The title is the only detail he’s offered about the tour so far. Dates and cities will follow.
“You have given me so much strength, and that’s why I want to give just as much strength back to you when we celebrate together one last time in 2028,” Brejcha says.
The decision, he explains, was not made overnight. He began weighing retirement several years ago and spent the past two years mulling over what would come next.
Boris Brejcha was born in Ludwigshafen in 1981, began producing at age 12, and made his record debut in 2006 with early releases on Autec Records and Harthouse. His first-ever live gig was at Brazil’s Universo Paralello Festival. His Carnival-inspired Joker mask and his self-coined High-Tech Minimal genre tag have been his signature ever since.
Brejcha went on to launch the Fckng Serious imprint, release 10 studio albums, and build a touring profile whose North American high points include Coachella’s Sahara stage, Red Rocks in 2023 and 2025, a recent Hollywood Bowl performance backed by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and an 18,000-capacity night at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes.
Brejacha still only plays his own productions in his sets, so the farewell will sound exactly like him.
