Montreal bass producer borne returns to NIGHTMODE with his explosive new single, “Ignite.” Arriving August 21st, the heavyweight track features South Africa’s award-winning singer-songwriter Tasha Baxter, reinforcing borne’s reign over the 140 dubstep space through a masterclass in satiny melody and raw, weaponized energy.
Opening with a cinematic intro of rhythmic heartbeat drums and glum piano notes, “Ignite” builds a tense, atmospheric calm. Tasha Baxter’s entrancing, satiny falsetto creates a stomach-dropping experience, facing an inevitable finish with a willingness to set the world on fire. That calm gives way to a sonic explosion, as borne flexes his genre-defying talents with a fiery fusion of 140, house, and contemporary club music. Its searing synths tear through the arrangement—shifting from cavernous to pummeling four-on-the-floor grooves—with piercing metallic textures, gritty oscillators, roaring sub-bass, bouncy baile drums, and pitch-bending synths that pour oil directly over the flames.
“Ignite” follows his March label outing “Can I,” which has garnered over 325K streams and earned coverage across Iggy Magazine, Music You Wanna Listen To, Affinity Ascension, Find Your Sounds, and Festivales Y Musica Electronica. Along with the single’s radio support from Zeds Dead, Kx5 (Kaskade and deadmau5), Thys, Don Diablo, and Fedde le Grand, his music continues to dominate dancefloors with live backing from Casey Club, REMNANT.exe, Phrva, Flava D, and Good Times Ahead.
With recent festival sets at Nocturnal Valley and FVDED in the Park, plus a string of collaborations alongside Peekaboo, Taiki Nulight, WINK, and Scruffizer, borne consistently draws co-signs from industry heavyweights including Fred again.., Overmono, salute, and Four Tet. He’s gearing up for a highly anticipated back-to-back set with Nitepunk for the closing party of ISOxo and Knock2’s second annual niteharts festival hosted at Snapdragon Stadium this Otober in San Diego, featuring a heavyweight lineup including DJ Snake, Hamdi, RL Grime, Porter Robinson, Frost Children, underscores, LYNY, ISOKNOCK, and more.
Recruiting Tasha Baxter, whose vocal prowess has graced tracks for Flux Pavilion, Camo & Krooked, Dion Timmer, and Feed Me, “Ignite” arrives as a high-octane precursor to borne’s upcoming EP due out later this year. It finds the Montreal producer sharpening his balance of intention and impact, pushing the boundaries of club music while solidifying his distinct voice in the global bass scene.
“‘Ignite’ came to be after a long sound design session. After that session, I immediately got to work on an idea which later became this track. Then, when finalizing the production, I was looking for a vocalist, which is where Tasha came in.”—borne
“There’s something really special about finding collaborators who speak the same emotional language and resonate on the same frequency. borne has this incredible ability to create tension and space in his production, which gave me room to tell the story I heard inside the music—AND he has the most incredible voice, which I discovered when sending voice notes back and forth. ‘Ignite’ is about trusting the fire instead of fearing it, because sometimes the things that transform us are the very things we try to avoid. I became an instant fan once I dove knee-deep into borne’s world, and I’m super grateful that Vishal (To Be Fair + NIGHTMODE) connected us. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created for our first collab. I couldn’t be more stoked to make my NIGHTMODE debut on a label that constantly flips the script, with the most glorious aesthetic, incredible creative direction and top-notch releases. This tune is
and has finally found its worthy home.”—Tasha Baxter

More About Tasha Baxter
Writing songs and performing since the age of twelve, South African singer, songwriter, DJ and producer Tasha Baxter has spent more than three decades building a body of work defined by emotional storytelling. Across a career that unfolded alongside raising two children, her unmistakable voice and the songwriting behind it have become one of electronic music’s most enduring signatures, garnering more than 150 million streams, a Drum & Bass Arena Award for Best Vocalist, two South African Music Awards, Billboard-charting releases and Beatport #1s. By the time her award-winning major-label debut, Colour of Me, produced by Noisia, was released, Baxter had already established herself as a performer, songwriter and emerging presence in international electronic music. The album became a defining chapter in a career that has continued to evolve through collaborations with Feed Me, Au5, Noisia, Flux Pavilion, Kill The Noise, Camo & Krooked, IMANU, Ferry Corsten and Lil Wayne, with music released through Monstercat, mau5trap, Hospital Records, RAM Records, Vision Recordings, Warner Music, Universal Music, Virgin Music and Ministry of Sound. Beyond the electronic music world, her work as a composer has extended into film, television and commercial campaigns. Equally at home behind the microphone, in the studio and behind the decks, Baxter approaches every song as both architect and storyteller, shaping not only the voice listeners hear, but the world it inhabits. Her work is rooted in authenticity, vulnerability and human connection, always placing emotional truth above genre. For Baxter, songwriting has always been about more than music. It is about preserving what it means to be human, capturing the sonic imprint of our time, so that, long after the moment has passed, the stories remain. In the end, every song is a memory written down before it can be forgotten. Of Greek-Egyptian heritage, Baxter’s creative perspective is informed by a lifelong fascination with history, mythology and the timeless stories that shape the human experience. Each chapter of her career has been shaped by her own evolution, embracing every creative incarnation with the patience to let it unfold, the courage to let it end, and the conviction to begin again.
