“FADER” offers an iconic opening for the project, pairing two of electronic trap’s brightest new stars. Atlanta and Portland unite as Pryzms and SPORTMODE join forces for the massive anthem. The cinematic introduction sets the stage as mystical undertones are joined by a morphing melodic line. Militant drums and gritty rap vocals add a sense of filth that is ratcheted up in the blistering drops. Croak-and-laser leads power the adrenalizing energy alongside thick low-end and precise percussion. The breaks bring back the hypnotic pull before closing out with a retooled finale that’s beyond brutish.
SPORTMODE speaks to the chemistry of the collaboration, saying, “This track with PRZYMS came together almost effortlessly, as our styles really complement each other. We were able to blend our sounds with a big otherworldly intro, and transition that into some high-energy drops.”
Keeping it straight to the point, Pryzms simply adds, “This shit is fye.”
Acyan’s “BURNER” is intensity captured in sonic form. The extreme heat is immediately noticeable right from the jump. Dizzying leads and agitated undertones are met with head-spinning basslines and alarm beeps. The drops are beastly and distorted, mixing classic trap chants with an industrial aesthetic and dizzying sound design. Cranking up the potency at each turn, “BURNER” is yet another scorching offering from the ever-improving Acyan.
Acyan breaks down the meaning behind the track, saying, “I think ‘BURNER’ fits the title mostly for the grit. It’s both named after the back half of the phrase ‘barn burner’ and also the burners used in some of the gigantic industrial buildings I’ve explored. A barn burner might have you gritting your teeth from the intensity, and those industrial burners were a major power component and typically leave a gritty residue from burning off various materials.”
Los Angeles-based Odd Language brings a rave-ready weapon in the form of “THROW MY BODY.” The sultry and infectious vocals are contrasted against the menacing sound design and abusive bass. Driven by the drums, the track fuses snappy snares, rapid-fire hats, thick kicks, and wild fills. The bass bends will have your mind spinning with excitement. “THROW MY BODY” is the soundtrack to dark warehouse raves and strobe-tinted memories.
The excitement around this one is palpable with Odd Language saying, “Couldn’t be more excited to release ‘THROW MY BODY.’ Wanted to make something full of raw energy. Something that you can just lose yourself to in a live setting, and I feel that this track encapsulates those emotions perfectly.”
Ailow’s “DEMONS” is a wild ride through the darkness that drifts between reflective cruising and pedal-to-the-metal explosions. Evocative reese basses set the scene of dark nights on an open highway, as a playful melody and fast-paced hi-hats slam on the accelerator. The drops erupt like a V8 pushed to the max, as the track literally revs up before breaking the speed of sound. Sharp trap percussion keeps things on course, while pounding kicks and distorted basslines mirror the chaos inside the mind. “DEMONS” is the soundtrack to starring down the demons in the rear view while mashing the gas full speed ahead.
Drawing from personal experience, Ailow discusses the meaning behind the track, “‘Demons’ is about the battles we all fight inside our heads. For me, it’s that push and pull between the chaos I carry and the energy I release through music. I wanted the track to feel raw, heavy, and relentless. Like staring your demons in the face.”
Pulling in elements of trap, phonk, wave, and beyond, SKYLER and Veiled Eye conjure the genre-blending “TAKE IT!” The namesake vocal anchors the track, offering a hypnotic pull as it’s looped throughout. The production around the vocal is anything but constant, exploring a myriad of directions and energy levels from the thumping 4-on-4 first drop to the massive festival trap sound in the back half. “TAKE IT!” is a futuristic, otherworldly banger that pushes the boundaries of trap and bass.
Veiled Eye discusses their goal when writing the track, saying, “‘TAKE IT!’ is a loud, boomy, and percussive take to the trap sound. I wanted to elevate the style in a way I’ve rarely seen done within this genre and introduce everyone to a bold, and strong direction to trap.”
SKYLER offers her perspective on the collaboration, explaining, “‘TAKE IT!’ is me throwing the rulebook out the window. It’s a risk, it’s loud, it’s different—and that’s exactly the point. I didn’t want to play it safe. I wanted to shake things up, step into a new sound, and keep my audience on their toes.”
Capping off the project with a bang comes CORTR’s trap stomper “BRINGITBACK.” Haunting soundscapes offer an eerie foundation that is built upon expertly with a towering lead, gritty processed vocals, and excitement-inducing drum breaks. Devastating bass collides with grimy sound design, razor-sharp snares, glitchy textures, explosive vox, and ever-evolving groove. Offering an unbridled onslaught of trap destruction, CORTR’s “BRINGITBACK” is a certifiable weapon.
CORTR breaks down his approach, saying, “I wanted to write the most ignorant energy-fuelled track I could while still keeping that haunting melodic undertone I try to inject into all of my music. ‘BRINGITBACK’ came from wanting to bring back that side of my sound after writing a lot more melodic music.”
BREAK ROOM’s “OFF THE CLOCK: PHASE I” is a knockout debut compilation, showcasing the future of trap and bass with a relentless onslaught of heaters.
