The lead track, “Frontin’,” showcases their shared ability to craft deep dubstep with a sharp edge. A gritty hip-hop vocal sample pulses through layers of complex sound design, underpinned by intricate drum patterns and distorted synth lines that keep the groove ever-changing. The culmination of their innovative styles creates a track that feels alive, mutating with every listen.

On the B-side, “Awake” creeps in with an ominous buildup, setting the stage for its slow and sultry tempo. Rippling basslines weave through a landscape of powerful percussion, creating a vibe that’s equal parts haunting and seductive. The track demonstrates the pairing’s acumen for low-end synthesis, as they explore new sonic territories while keeping the tension on edge. In the latter half, a relentless barrage of bottom-end takes hold and refuses to let up its grip, cementing the track as a bold statement of their collaborative sound.

Shedding light on how easily the collab came together, MYTHM says, “Linking up with Joey [Chef Boyarbeatz] in Denver and writing music together in person felt so natural. Everything flowed effortlessly, and our styles just clicked. It made perfect sense to drop a collab project.”

Sharing his excitement about linking up in the studio, Chef Boyarbeatz states, ‘Both songs are a great connection between our sounds at the time, and we’re excited to let them loose on the world.”

Chef Boyarbeatz stirred up the scene with his two-track ‘Squidward’s Revenge’ on Bassrush late last year, garnering praise from outlets like EDM Identity and The Music Essentials. Now based in Denver, the ICON Collective alum has made his mark on some of the most reputable labels in the game. His track “Steady Slurkin’” was voted the #1 dubstep song of 2022, a testament to his influence in the scene. Supported by pioneers like Skream and Zeds Dead, Chef has continued to evolve, curating lineups and securing major tour support for Boogie T.

Vancouver’s MYTHM merges UK dubstep with a raw, immersive sound that has caught the ears of industry heavyweights like Excision and Zeds Dead. Release after mind-blowing release finds him continually elevating his genre-blurring style. Recently, MYTHM has brought his heady energy to festival stages, including Shambhala and Red Rocks, solidifying his reputation for delivering high-powered live performances.

This release captures the seamless chemistry between Chef Boyarbeatz and MYTHM. While Chef channels a nostalgia for UK bass through textured soundscapes, MYTHM challenges genre norms with his heavy, detailed production. ‘Frontin’ / Awake’ doesn’t just push boundaries—it reshapes them, creating a vibe that lingers long after the final beat.
