Chilean DJ and producer Paula Tape has announced the release of her latest EP, ‘Acid Latino’.

Showcasing a blend of ’90s rave, acid house and Latin music influences, the EP will be released via the Sydney/Los Angeles imprint on 20th November.

The release’s title track, ‘Acid Latino (Sonido Real),’ is out now and features a mix of acid house basslines from the TB-303, combined with a salsa-inspired piano progression and Tape’s vocals.

Speaking about the single, Tape said: “I’ve always liked salsa piano progression, I find it soulful and rich in groove, one day I was listening to ‘Bilongo’ by Fania all-Stars” and I was in a trance because of how the piano moved and sounded, at that time I was working in the studio and I dared to use a Latin piano progression, I was curious to try something similar but in a more electronic key.”

The ‘Acid Latino’ EP reflects Tape’s experiences both in South America and on tour, incorporating elements of her heritage into her music. “Acid Latino is a state of mind,” she said. “It’s something that came out of my travels and interactions with people across the continent.”

News of the release comes following a busy couple of years for Tape, having performed at the likes of Glastonbury, Awakenings and Boiler Room, as well as Panorama Bar and Circoloco. Originally from Santiago de Chile, she began her career as a drummer before moving into electronic music. Her debut EP, Agua Congas, on SOBO, led to further releases on imprints like Rhythm Section, Permanent Vacation and Ransom Note.
