Lake’s “A Drug From God” Release Party Show Set For Tomorrow, November 13, At The Midway In San Francisco.

NPC is a new AI girl group from Grimes, who continues to hone the concepts of her recent albums, Art Angels, which charted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums tally, and Miss Anthropocene, which Rolling Stone hailed as “a work of ambition.” Her 2012 album, Visions, was named as one of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time” by NME and won the Electronic Album of the Year Award at the Junos in her native Canada.

Fans have been clamoring for the release “A Drug From God” ever since this live performance snippet from Lake’s summer tour was posted. “This new ID…has everybody talking,” said YourEDM. Dancing Astronaut hailed it as “fire.” Stereogum, NME, The Line of Best FitUPROXX and numerous other publications also took note. Released today by Black Book Records and EMI, the track was produced by Lake and NPC in Los Angeles. Lake’s hits include such songs as “Turn Off the Light,” “Operator (Ring Ring),” “I Want You” and “Deceiver.” In a feature announcing his signing to Astralwerks, Billboard Dance noted that his catalog “neatly embodies the tech-house-oriented…sound that… is the genre of choice among Stateside dance fans.” The British-born, L.A. based producer/DJ recently collaborated with Fritz Carlton on a remix of Joseph Ray and Lakou Mizik’s “Bade Zile,” which is the lead-off track from Black Book ID’s: Chapter 2. The mixtape, which was released last month, also includes contributions from DEL-30, Alex Kennon, Dubesque and CZR & Gettoblaster. With the Black Book ID’s series, Lake’s objective is to instill a sense of discovery in fans, with exclusive, previously unreleased recordings from both established and new artists.

Black Book, which Lake founded in 2016, routinely tops the Beatport chart – with Chris Lorenzo’s “California Dreamin’” Ft. High Jinx, a reimagining of The Mamas and The Papas’ classic hit, being the latest to claim the Number 1 spot. The label teamed up with Astralwerks in late 2020 to release The AnswerLake’s epic collaboration with legendary producer Armand Van Helden. In addition to his originals, Lake has a string of acclaimed remixes to his credit, including Calvin Harris & Disciple’s “How Deep is Your Love,” Missy Elliot’s “WTF (Where They From)” and MK’s “Body 2 Body.” He also collaborated on Deadmau5’s 4×4=12, which received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

NPC is a new AI girl group by Grimes. Members are infinite in number and can be voted in or out, except for core members such as the baby Warnymph.

NPC is a vehicle for experimentation in new technologies as they become available such as generative characters and music, diff types of animation, ai assisted art as well as spiritual technology in that Grimes can create as other people in order to reduce the psychic pain of being in the public eye.
NPC will hone the concepts of Art Angels and Miss Anthropocene, finally manifesting the endless characters in Grimes’ head.

NPC can do all the things humans cannot. NPC will eventually be playable, customizable, and able to cater to each individual listener’s unique desires. Decentralized Popstardom. Made, not Born.

British-born, L.A. based producer/DJ Chris Lake – whose monumental discography includes a series of chart-topping hits and a GRAMMY® Award nomination – founded Black Book Records in 2016. Initially, he envisioned the label as a vehicle for releasing his music independently. Famed BBC Radio 1 host Danny Howard asked to debut a track Lake had played for him, “Operator (Ring Ring)” feat. Dances With White Girls, and, eager to accommodate him, Lake quickly launched Black Book Records in order to release the track.

Named “Hottest Record In The World” by Annie Mac, “Operator (Ring Ring)” emerged as a #1 SiriusXM hit, drew support from house mainstays like Claude VonStroke and Armand van Helden, and became the unofficial anthem of Holy Ship! the following January. Releases by such acts as Walker & Royce, Goooey Vuitton, and Wade soon followed, as Lake turned to developing artists and empowering them to make significant gains in global touring and streaming.

By 2020, Black Book releases were routinely ruling the Beatport chart, with tracks by Fast Eddie, Josement, Solardo, Armand Van Helden, Noizu, Martin Ikin and Green Velvet all ascending to the #1 spot. Black Book teamed up with Astralwerks in late 2020 to release The Answer, Lake’s epic collaboration with legendary producer Armand Van Helden.

Forthcoming Black Book releases include material by Cloonee, DEL30, Prok & Fitch, Alex Kennon, Franklyn Watts, Mele NightFunk, and more. In the spring of 2021, the label released Black Book ID’s – an EP spotlighting exclusive, in-demand records that have been heard in live sets or otherwise previewed but have eluded official release. Black Book ID’s will also introduce artists on the rise and feature new music from Lake himself.

Black Book enjoys enduring support from Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac, Danny Howard and Pete Tong and continues to break new artists. Recently, Miane earned her first Beatport top 10 single with the release of “Who Are You.” In fact, Black Book now ranks No. 7 of all labels on Beatstats, across all of Beatport over the past 12 months. The label’s artists have graced the covers of Spotify’s Cratediggers and Housewerk playlists as well as Apple Music’s danceXL.
