“Hurts Sometimes” is an emotive creation that perfectly balances RUNN’s moving vocal performance with Crystal Skies’ melodic mastery. Built around the vulnerable yet brave topline, RUNN guides listeners through the roller coaster ride called life. Flush with peaks and valleys, the single embraces the pain while pushing forward to a brighter horizon. The pop-leaning vocal offers an addictive hook that’s backed by soothing acoustic guitar riffs, driving percussion, and an underlying end-of-summer energy. The bittersweet current travels through the guide rails, exploring the agony while offering a sense of hopeful embrace. The soft stuttering house groove provides an enhanced energy that offers an airy allure that counters the heavier feels. Steady rimshot hits, perfectly timed slides, and soulful coos add a sense of divine magic.
Touching on the conception of their new single, Crystal Skies shares: “For this record, we aimed to create more emotionally resonant songs, moving beyond merely powerful melodic dubstep tunes intended for club play. This is a culmination of that effort, and a bit of a return to the chiller vibe we embraced when we first embarked on this project. RUNN has contributed some of the most heart-wrenching and incredible vocals we’ve ever had on any of our records, and we’re really excited about how this one turned out!”
The esteemed production pair Crystal Skies have become a pillar in the melodic bass scene with an emotive sound that’s assured to take one’s breath away. Their debut album ‘Not Since When’ on Lost In Dreams was extremely well-received, landing support from LA Weekly, Dancing Astronaut, EDM Tunes, EDM Identity, Saint Audio, and Audiocult. They’ve continued their impressive run with recent singles “Heart’s Still Beating,” and “Nirvana” alongside Amidy, drawing radio support from Illenium, Alison Wonderland, and JVNA. They will be showcasing their ever-expanding talents with sets at some of the most prestigious festivals in dance music including Escape Halloween in SoCal.
RUNN has been making deep strides in the dance music space, while she’s not busy pouring her heart out into her own solo pop career. With a unique lens on life and a special ability to strip back emotions to their rawest essence, she’s quickly become a standout songstress with a host of high-caliber collaborations alongside household names, such as Illenium, Seven Lions, Dabin, Au5, Kai Wachi, Jason Ross, Steve Aoki, and the list continues to grow by the day.
“Hurts Sometimes” is a moving exploration of life and love that will be stuck on repeat.
Crystal Skies’ new single “Hurt Sometimes” with RUNN is available on all platforms via Lost In Dreams Records.
