Benni Ola, who provides vocals across the EP, is a true Renaissance man. In addition to recording music, Benni’s artistic background spans songwriting, spoken word poetry, modeling, and acting. Daktyl is a music production guru, who has accumulated an expansive catalog spanning many corners of electronic music over the past decade. When these two come together, a special synergy is unlocked. The duo creates music for creation’s sake – fostering an authentic relationship that results in honest art.

‘Safe’ opens with an isolated melody, starting the track off on a pure and optimistic note. As crunchy percussive elements are incorporated into the mix, Benni lays down the track’s opening line “Won’t you say that it’s safe for me?” in an uneasy tone. Benni is asking if he’s in an environment where he can let his guard down and show who he really is. When the first chorus hits, the mood changes once more. As Benni unloads his feelings, singing “Why you teasin’, you got no reason, you holdn’ back // Hate how love feel, I know it scares you, and that’s a fact // Ain’t it obvious, I’m on ya conscience, I’m in ya top three // I’m not three, I’m fucking probably ya only option”, the instrumental provides a release of tension – like the feeling of finally getting something off your chest. Throughout the next verse, the instrumental continues to evolve, like the ebbs and flows of a relationship. ‘Safe’ is supercharged with emotion – Benni’s lyrics grapple with being vulnerable and communicating with your partner, while Daktyl’s ever-evolving instrumental depicts the highs and the lows of being in a relationship. This track provides the full spectrum of the feeling of love, from the highest highs to having your heart broken.

The music video is told backwards, first displaying an ending of strung out love and then jumping back to the beginning to tell the full story. Benni shares “Much like the experience of coming down from an extreme high and feeling like you need more of it, our lovers find themselves living back the moments they never wanted to end. We’ve all been there, party for two in the living room, feeling like you’re holding infinity in your hand then all the sudden it’s gone. By literally telling the story in reverse, the video is presenting a choice; If you had to choose (red pill, blue pill) between being in the highest love of your life but knowing the crash would feel like hell, would you still go on that ride?…The answer is always yes.”

The ‘Safe’ music video references the ‘Matrix’ single from the Chaos Theory (Part 1) EP and the film’s use of red pill, blue pill. Benni learned the ‘Safe’ lyrics in reverse in order to shoot backwards and then flip the story into the song’s true order.

“Chaos Theory Part 2 in general is definitely the more emotional side of the music. With part 1 bringing the more clubby records, part 2 focuses on the emotional chaos we experience and desperately want to control. You can hear this in both the lyrics and production.” – Daktyl & Benni Ola

As fans eagerly wait for the release of more music from Daktyl and Benni Ola, they can experience Chaos Theory in real life! The duo will be performing in San Francisco on August 4, opening for Young Art labelhead TOKiMOSTA at 1015 Folsom.
