That continues in the New Year with a third appearance from Mayer, this time in solo mode. His multicultural upbringing continues to inform his work, which is infused with real depth and standout melodies that convey true meaning. His drums land heavy, and his knack for a catchy top line always stands out on labels like Connected and Ouïe.
‘News Flash’ was born as winter was ending, energy was shifting, and spring was beginning to show its face. It was during this transition that the idea of SONARA becoming a real label moved from dream to concrete reality, and plenty of excitement was in the air. David created this track in that atmosphere and translates the same feeling of movement, change, and forward momentum that defined those months. It is the sound of something waking up, something beginning, and the energy that the whole team shared before SONARA officially launched.
There is a subtle, ever-present feeling of joy and celebration in the nimble, busy groove and excitable melodies. Synths rise up through the mix and deft percussion keeps things moving while an intoxicating Eastern lead emerges to bring some playfulness and unite dancers as one. ‘News Flash’ shows Mayer can bring both sophistication and irresistible energy to his work.
