Key SONARA artists David Mayer and Nico Stojan are no strangers to collaboration and dropped ‘Nano’ on this label’s inaugural EP in late September. Mayer draws on his multicultural upbringing, having lived across Europe, and creates genre-spanning sounds on the likes of Connected Frontline, Objektivity, and Keinemusik. He is a master of deep grooves and lasting emotion, and fellow Berlin talent Nico Stojan is just as accomplished. The former Bar25 resident founded Ouïe Records with Acid Pauli, merging everything from downtempo to jazz and hip-hop in his musical grooves. For this one, the pair enlists the vocals of Nes Mburu, a go-to and authoritative Afro house singer with credits on numerous key labels.
The fantastic ‘Luhya’ is a deeply enchanting and spiritual sound, with clean, soulful, and rousing vocals that set a dulcet tone. Heart-warming chords are draped over a heavyweight yet rolling groove, accompanied by wispy melodies and organic percussion, all of which heighten the sensations and lead to a profound emotional release. All new levels of musicality stem from the melodies, while driving energy is generated by the bold, empowering bassline that arrives and takes things even higher.
SONARA is about music that fosters deep dance floor connections that can bloom, and this second outing is another cultured journey into truly moving house music.
