DAYTIMERS member Zar releases much sought-after single ‘Rivulets’

Zar, aka Arun Dhanjal, is a multifaceted artist who blends UK Garage, techno, deep house and hip hop influences into his melodic sounds. He’s also the drummer for hindustani classical/psych rock band Karma Sheen, a core member of the South Asian arts collective DAYTIMERS, and Pirate Studios resident for 2024. His tracks have aired on NTS, Rinse FM, BBC Radio 6 and BBC Asian Network. He has played the likes of Warehouse Project, has a residency at The Standard in London, and will be making his debut at Wide Awake Festival in May.

‘Rivulets’ emerged from two late-night sessions in the autumn of 2021 and is characterised by a spontaneous outpouring of emotions. It’s influenced by the DAYTIMERS parties and was Zar’s way of tapping into the sometimes divine feelings we all experience in the club. The tune has been an underground hit for those lucky enough to have it digitally but now it gets an official release after support from SUCHI’s Bicep mix, Baalti and BBC Asian Network.

The majestic track is a dense collage of meticulously crafted sounds that fizzes with energy. The turbocharged breakbeats power it along while chopped-up South Asian vocal stabs soar over warped synths and flashy future stabs. It’s energetic and euphoric, melancholic yet uplifting and will continue to make indelible impacts on all who hear it this summer and beyond.

Zar’s ‘Rivulets’ will be released via Tabula Rasa Records on July 26th 2024.
