DETECT CLASSIC FESTIVAL 2023 LINE-UP ANNOUNCED

For the second year, the festival takes over the Schloss Bröllin estate inviting audiences to contemplate the old and explore the new.

Detect Classic Festival will take place from the 11th – 13th August.

There’s perhaps no better place to reconsider traditions than the 800-year-old estate of  Schloss Bröllin in Fahrenwalde. It’s in this magnificent manor house, encompassing ancient farm buildings such as a granary, barn and distillery and surrounded by the bucolic countryside, that Detect Classic Festival takes place, inviting audiences to contemplate the old and explore the new through sight and sound. For the first time ever, the 2023 edition of the festival, which will happen between the 11th to 13th of August, will also reflect on a  theme. The concept of the “membrane” – the fragile layer that enables exchange between two different entities – was chosen as motif, providing food for thought in performances,  talks and workshops.

“Whether it is the transmission of sound vibrations from the speakers into the cells in our eardrum or the metaphorical membranes that exist around us, questions arise: How do we achieve permeability without destroying or losing connection? How can we remain flexible without tearing apart? How do we communicate with each other without violating  boundaries?” – Detect Classic Festival curators

Founded initially by the German-Nordic Youth Philharmonic and followed up by the  Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festivalin 2019, Detect Classic Festival has brought a mix of classical acts, experimental music, and electronica to the stage in the spirit of discovery,  collaboration and experimentation. The festival unfurls in an open and inclusive space where violin bows float through the night sky and swirling beats emerge from the fields. Between the movement of the grass blowing in the wind, the pauses for contemplation and learning in workshops and the intoxication of the avant-garde music programme, Detect Classic  Festival becomes the ideal family-friendly festival for inquisitive minds who want to explore different musical expressions, genres, and scenes. The carefully curated programme of the festival focuses on the traditions, variations, and expressions of classical and electronic music, particularly in the live realm.

More than 45 international acts have been confirmed for this year’s stellar line-up. These range from classical musicians exploring new paths (STEGREIF.orchester, lutenist David Bergmüller and pianist Frank Dupree as the soloist with the German-Nordic Youth Philharmonic) to experimental and ambient music (featuring artist Lucrecia Dalt, pianist Kai Schumacher, the enchanting Mabe Fratti from Latin America, and Dictaphone), jazz (with the ensemble  Welten from Leipzig and artist SOPHE), and a  selection of defining electronic music acts (Janus Rasmussen, AFAR  Jonathan Kaspar, M.Rux, Sapphire Slows). These acts, and many more,  come to Detect Classic Festival not just to perform but to, together with audiences, explore the synergy of the space and the uncharted waters of new musical expressions. In addition, the festival is introducing a “Kids Space” for the first time, where children aged 4 and above, along with their families, can enjoy a vibrant program featuring performances, music, and games.
