Following the acclaimed release of Wanderlust, the collaborative album from Donna Lewis and David Lowe, the journey continues with an exhilarating new remix of the album’s opening single, “Burning Man,” courtesy of internationally acclaimed Welsh electronic artist Bright Light Bright Light (Rod Thomas).
Originally released as the first chapter of Wanderlust, “Burning Man” introduced listeners to an emotional journey of curiosity, exploration, and self-discovery. Built around hypnotic synths, cinematic textures, and Donna Lewis’ unmistakably ethereal vocals, the song quickly became a fan favorite, earning placement on Spotify’s New Dance Pop editorial playlist and establishing the sonic world of the album.
Now, Bright Light Bright Light transforms the track into a euphoric slice of shimmering dance-pop. The collaboration also marks a reunion between two Welsh artists whose musical paths have crossed in recent years. Donna previously joined Bright Light Bright Light on a special Welsh-language version of his song “Enjoy Youth,” celebrating their shared heritage and long-standing friendship.
Rod Thomas explains:
“Donna Lewis is one of my all-time favourites. I remember buying ‘I Love You Always Forever’ and ‘Without Love’ CD singles in Neath, my home town, and having her gorgeous, ethereal voice fill my stereo as a child. We’ve become friends and she’s loaned her amazing vocals to my song ‘Enjoy Youth’ for a Welsh version celebrating both of our Welsh roots, so it is a joy to be asked to remix a song of hers.
Of all the songs on the album, I chose ‘Burning Man’ because of its hypnotic writing structure, and the lyrics are just lovely. I think ‘Are you a dreamer or a doer?’ made me think of my youth, when people would tell you to get your head out of the clouds and find a real job. But both Donna and I make music for a living, so it’s quite magical that we are both dreamers and doers.”
Bright Light Bright Light’s reimagining of “Burning Man”opens an exciting new chapter for the project, proving that great songs continue to evolve long after they are first written.
