Dreamy and spellbinding, “Bells and Whistles” is a future riddim track in its purest form. Ringing in literally with its idiophonic percussion, the melodic dubstep offering contains all the hallmarks of the conscious-expanding subgenre. Chiming bells and warm, color-bass melodies work in concert to induce a trance-like state. Otherworldly vocalizations glide gracefully above the mix, creating depth behind luminous padlines, lofty drum machine loops, and an array of whimsical tones that allow the track to reach its melting point—like dissolving deeper into the recesses of the human psyche.
Reflecting on how his creation went from a fast-spreading WIP to a full-fledged single, Dope Ameen shares: “This release is the full circle fruition of more dreams than I can count. I knew this song was special when I started teasing the earliest clips of it on my Instagram. My friends and fans alike were constantly asking me to release it, or at the very least, send them the unreleased version to listen to over and over. When Emorfik heard it and chose me to win the Discovery Project, I was at a loss for words. Literally. I had been listening to his music for years prior. Truly full circle, in every sense of the phrase.”
Based in LA by way of New Orleans, Dope Ameen is a bass music upstart who’s been causing quite the stir behind the decks. He’s been racking up an impressive list of live support for artists, including Aweminus, SweetTooth, HE$H, Sqishi, Ophion, BLVNKSPVCE, and more. With a moniker playing off the notorious neurotransmitter, the up-and-coming producer’s music is intent on hijacking the brain’s pleasure center, flooding the synapses with his otherworldly dubstep concoctions. “Bells and Whistles” is a hit of dopamine, indeed, having earned the top spot in the Discovery Project’s DJ/Producer ‘Clubs Edition’ competition, selected by guest judge, Emorfik. The win secured Dope Ameen an opening set at the Bassrush-hosted night at Avalon Hollywood, along with this single release on the Discovery Project’s dedicated label.
With “Bells and Whistles,” Dope Ameen makes a brilliant entry into the Discovery Project collective, one that thins the veil to offer a glimpse into what appears to be a rewarding future for the rising artist in Los Angeles.
Dope Ameen’s new single “Bells and Whistles” is available on all platforms via Discovery Project.
