Chicago-bred guitarist and vocalist Dr Wippit makes his move with an upbeat, groove-driven rap rock cut that’s been a live favourite for years: ‘YUP’ (from the album ‘For Everyone’)
Dr Wippit has released his single, ‘Yup’; a punchy, self-assured rap rock track built from the ground up in FL Studio, fusing a MIDI-driven bass groove with live Ibanez Iceman guitar and keyboards into something that sits comfortably alongside the likes of 311, the Beastie Boys, and Gorillaz.
The track began, as Dr Wippit explains, with an unlikely experiment:
“I took a drum beat and changed the instrument to bass guitar, and with some tweaking had a nice groove to put some guitar and keyboards on top of. It seemed to lend itself to confidence rap, so I took it that direction.” — DR WIPPIT
The result is exactly that… confident. ‘Yup’ is a declaration of self-belief from an artist with two decades of real miles behind him: early airplay in Chicago with hard rock outfit Chronic Jaywalker, genre-blending work with ska/hip-hop collective The Kenilworth Project, and a string of independent releases in 2023 and 2024. Having relocated to Colorado, Dr Wippit is now writing and recording from the mountains, and ‘Yup’ signals he has no intention of slowing down.
The single carries the easy swagger of an artist who’s done the work and knows it. At its core, as Dr Wippit puts it, the track is about “feeling confident enough about where you’ve been and where you’re going that you’re ready to take everyone there and sure we’ll all dig it” – a sentiment that runs through everything he makes: authentic, direct, and built to be felt live.
With press and playlist campaigning underway and live shows on the horizon, ‘Yup’ is the opening move in what looks like an active and prolific stretch for Dr Wippit, with further releases already confirmed for the coming months.
