Avant-electro’s most uncompromising outfit steps into new territory — Energy Whores are back, and they’ve brought the fog and a new member with them…
‘Fade to Gray’, the New York avant-electro project’s haunting new single, doesn’t announce itself so much as materialise – built from pulsing electronic rhythms, layered synths, and a slow-building tension that makes you feel like something important is slipping just beyond your reach. Which, as it turns out, is exactly the point.
This release comes at an exciting time, when Energy Whores welcomes a new member: Grant NYC joins, making the outfit a trio! Now an official member of Energy Whores, he is contributing as a producer, arranger, sound designer, and live electronic performance collaborator. With a background in electronic music and DJ culture, he brings a deep understanding of rhythm, texture, and dynamic energy to the project. He plays a key role in shaping both the recorded sound and the band’s evolving live experience.
Shaped in collaboration with Grant (NYC), the track leans hard into contrast: warm melodic lines pressed up against cold, mechanised undercurrents. Intimate and expansive in the same breath. As the track builds, a transformed vocal motif emerges – morphed, fractured, woven into the arrangement – signalling the moment the song tips from unease into something closer to surrender.
Carrie Schoenfeld puts it plainly: “It’s about that moment when something you believed in — something that felt real — starts to slip away. Not in a dramatic explosion, but in a slow, almost beautiful collapse.”
That space between holding on and letting go is where ‘Fade to Gray’ lives. It’s less a song about loss than about the grey area before you’ve admitted it to yourself — where a dream and reality share a border that’s already dissolving.
For a band who built their name on political confrontation and dancefloor unease, this marks a deliberate shift inward. The teeth are still there. They’re just quieter now.
‘Fade to Gray’ is out now on all major streaming platforms.

Artist Statement — Carrie Schoenfeld / Energy Whores
“I am a sonic insurgent. A lyrical arsonist. I make music to expose what others try to bury, injustice, greed, hypocrisy, and the emotional fallout of a broken world. My project, Energy Whores, is where electronic beats meet art rock, folk, and raw protest, a genre I call avant electro. Every track is a mirror held to society’s face, sometimes cracked, sometimes bloodied, always unfiltered.
I don’t write love songs. I write warning signs.
My lyrics dissect the sickness of power, the isolation of modern life, and the emotional warzones we carry inside. I’m here to say what others are too afraid to say — and I’ll set it to a beat you can’t ignore. Music is my rebellion and my redemption. It’s not just entertainment — it’s a weapon and a witness.
I create for the misfits, the furious, the disillusioned , and the ones still standing after the world tried to erase them.”
