Somerset trio Dream Robbery release their latest single ‘The Game’, the most recent instalment in a five-single collection recorded across five days at Mill Farm Studios and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Shawn Joseph.
Brooding, gritty and unflinchingly honest, ‘The Game’ moves between freedom, memory and loss, building an emotional meditation on the permanence of love set against the temporary nature of life. The track was written in a single evening, with the band’s frontman seated at his desk, a glass of whiskey in hand, Spiritualized’s Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space on the record player, and only a fountain pen, paper and acoustic guitar for company. Drawing on his experience as a frontline 999 ambulance worker, the emotion of the room and the ever-present pull of love and life, the song arrived, he says, in five minutes. Once taken to the band, ‘The Game’ was recorded true to the sound of their instruments and vocals, with no additional trimming or double tracking, preserving the rawness at its core.
“A true reflection of my life and my personal belief. Honesty and my total transparency,” the band says of the single.
Though Dream Robbery officially formed in 2022, the trio have spent over a decade honing the creative chemistry that now defines their sound, a chemistry rooted in the alt-90s and channelled through psychedelic rushes of guitar and serrated indie-rock intensity. The band count The Beta Band, John Martyn, Spiritualized, The Frames, Big Wreck and The Flat Duo Jets among their influences, and sit comfortably alongside acts such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Verve, Spiritualized, The Stone Roses and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The collection has already drawn international acclaim. Amelia Vandergast, Executive Editor at A&R Factory, said Dream Robbery are about to steal the scene, questioning who knew melancholy could sound so lush. Jam in the Van praised the band’s big sound, production and songwriting, while a Spanish rock culture magazine highlighted the huge guitar tones and raw vocal energy running through the band’s take on British garage and indie rock. The trio have carried that momentum onto festival stages including Godney Gathering.
Dream Robbery plan to return to the studio in 2027 to record with a new band member on synth and keys, alongside a live session recording. In October, the band head to South Korea for a run of shows alongside another act, before continuing to build their presence across festivals, radio, press and social media.
