MAY 29th, 2026 – Multi-platinum Canadian duo DVBBS return with “Torture of the Heart,” a new single featuring 2026 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Nelly Furtado, out today via Kanary Records / Ultra / Sony. The first collaboration between two of Canada’s most globally successful pop exports, “Torture of the Heart” pairs Furtado’s raw, soul-bearing vocal with DVBBS’s signature production — a heartbreak record that transcends genre, built to be sung back at full volume from a festival main stage.

The collaboration has been quietly in motion for years. DVBBS and Furtado had been trading ideas back and forth for a while before she sent over the vocal that became “Torture of the Heart” — stripped down, raw, and instantly recognizable as the one.

“The idea of working together has been floating around for a couple of years — we’ve been sending ideas back and forth for a while. A few months ago, Nelly sent over the vocal for Torture of the Heart. It was stripped down, super raw, and the minute we heard it we knew immediately — this was the one. It was almost like she was in the room, singing straight into our soul. There’s nothing better than hearing a melody and lyrics that feel that authentic. You know right away it was written straight from the heart.” – DVBBS

“We always joke that our superpower as producers — coming up out of the dance and electronic world — is taking an idea no one would ever imagine on a dance record and producing it in a way that transcends into a song a whole festival sings along to, dancing their hearts out. That’s exactly what this record is.” – DVBBS

“Working with Nelly was really special to us — we truly believe we created something beautiful together. She’s one of a kind, and seeing how open she is creatively was incredible.” – DVBBS

“It’s amazing to see the world give Nelly her flowers right now. She’s given a piece of her heart and soul to her art, and that will be forever timeless.” – DVBBS

The release arrives at the loudest stretch of Furtado’s career since the Loose era. In March, Drake inducted her into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2026 Juno Awards via a viral pre-recorded speech in which he called her “our North Star” and “proof that it was possible.” Furtado used the moment to pay tribute to the Black music community that embraced her early career — a speech widely cited as the defining moment of Junos weekend. The induction caps a months-long resurgence: “Say It Right” crossed one billion Spotify streams in 2026; her Dom Dolla collaboration “Eat Your Man” and Timbaland / Justin Timberlake reunion “Keep Going Up” reactivated her at radio and on the dance floor; and her single “Electric Circus” anchors the Boi-1da-produced Canada Soccer compilation soundtracking FIFA World Cup 2026. To date, Furtado has sold nearly 50 million records worldwide, generated over 20 billion global streams, won 10 Juno Awards, a Latin Grammy, and multiple Grammys among seven nominations.

For DVBBS — Toronto brothers Alex and Chris van den Hoef — “Torture of the Heart” continues a defining run. Their 2013 breakout “Tsunami” hit No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart — one of only thirteen Canadian acts ever to do so — and lives in Spotify’s Billions Club with platinum certifications across nine countries, while becoming one of the world’s most-used sports anthems across the NFL, NHL, NBA and Premier League. Across the catalogue: 5.7 billion streams, 28.9 million Shazams, 15+ platinum certifications globally, and six consecutive years in the DJ Mag Top 100, peaking at No. 16. Their 2025 single  “Move A Little Closer” with Abi Flynn hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, spent three weeks at No. 1 on Mediabase U.S. Dance Radio, and won Dance/Electro Pop Song of the Year at the 2026 EDMAs in Miami. Past collaborators include Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki, Galantis, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Blackbear, Wiz Khalifa, Kane Brown, 2 Chainz and Quinn XCII. They’ve delivered 1,000+ shows across 75+ countries, headlining world tours & festivals such as Tomorrowland, Ultra, Lollapalooza, EDC and Creamfields.
