In modern music, visual art has never been more inherent to sonic storytelling. Following last month’s single, “The Uncertain Future,” Brooklyn’s Esseks offers an immersive serving of hand crafted art and sounds on his latest effort, “Justice Served.” With it, the producer unveils the next visual and sonic chapter of his forthcoming EP due out later this Spring.
“Justice Served” dives into a darker, more arcane vibe than the first project single. The track opens with eerie synths, which lead into wonky, warped basslines. Written over the course of the last two years, the track reflects on the producer’s isolation and anxiety brought on by the uncertainty of the pandemic.

“These songs were written during a time in my life where a lot was changing and it was causing me a lot of stress and anxiety. I chose to make my own kind of tarot cards for the art because to me they represent the anxious need to try and predict or control the future.”
The artwork follows the tarot card-style series Esseks debuted for this EP. Here we see an ominous oracle greeting the viewer, accented by red and blue pastels. The delicately flushed illustration is starkly outlined in an eerie detail that parallels the producer’s music, which garners attention via intricate sound design contrasted by invigorating dubstep sensibilities.
Esseks (Sam Eckstein) is a Brooklyn-based producer and visual artist. His music ranges from all the bass-centric genres with a focus on the off-kilter. The diverse elements of his music are tied together with Esseks’ subtly dark but playful sound and visual aesthetic. He has built an extensive catalog of music since his first release in 2012 across various labels, including Wakaan, Subcarbon, Saturate, and most recently Deadbeats. His music is accompanied by visual work that is a key component to his vision, whether illustration, animation, or design. All of the artwork, merchandise, and visual content on stage are illustrated and designed by Esseks himself.
