Today Etta Marcus reveals her gorgeous new video for stunning sophomore single, Salt Lake City, featuring Matt Maltese released via Platoon. This release comes with the news that Etta will be joining Matt Maltese on his UK tour at the start of next year. See below for dates.
Salt Lake City is the second single to be taken from Etta’s debut EP ‘The View From The Bridge’, due for release on the 21st of January 2022.
Newcomer Etta Marcus makes an impressive second impression on her follow-up song “Salt Lake City”alongside tastemaker darling, Matt Maltese, who features on the song. The track instantly feels both reflective and timeless, and the London singer-songwriter, just 20, perfectly portrays tough-to-communicate feelings into song effortlessly.
Explaining further, Etta shares: “Salt lake city is wrapped in delusion. The idea of moving somewhere for someone and thinking that it will mend things, when deep down you know it won’t. I think it’s something a lot of us have done, not necessarily moving to another country, but compromising a little too much for someone that isn’t worth it.
“I had been listening to a lot of americana influenced music, and I suddenly became totally obsessed with the sound of lap steel guitar. As soon as I was able to play one, the whole song fell into place. Alongside the shimmery guitars, the reverb heavy tambourine, and Matt singing the second verse, it turned into this Nancy and Lee, Some Velvet Morning, meets Mazzy Star type of concoction. It was such a fun and exciting experience.”
Today’s release follows on from Etta’s debut song “Hide & Seek” which was only released last month. That song was lauded by the likes of Clash who said “It’s a refreshingly mature debut, one that points to exciting times ahead.” Since then she’s played at Communion’s showcase at The Social and amassed 550,000 global streams over the track’s small lifetime.
Already securing herself as an artist to watch with just one single under the belt, she has racked up 250 thousand monthly listeners.
At just 20 years old, Etta is already an older hand when it comes to songwriting, penning music since she was 14. Born-and-bred in Brixton, South London, she’s been honing her worldly sound and style, pulling from a melting pot of influences including everything from David Bowie to Fountains of Wayne, leaving her with a style that is truly her own.
Sat on a hugely impressive body of work, Etta Marcus is, without doubt, someone for your 2022 New Music Radars.
