EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH : beat.pacific

Hailing from the vibrant dance music hub of Las Vegas, Nevada, beat.pacific is a dynamic producer renowned for his captivating compositions in progressive, deep, and melodic house music. With a deep-rooted passion for music that echoes through every beat, beat.pacific draws inspiration from his personal experiences, including cherished moments with his wife and their four dogs, as well as his role as a mentor to up-and-coming producers.

Influenced by icons such as Estevia, Miss Monique, and Paul Oakenfold, beat.pacific’s sound is distinguished by its rich melodies and evocative vocal elements, elevating the listener on a journey through euphoric rhythms and soulful harmonies. 

“See The Sun,” beat.pacific’s latest release signed by Play Records, embodies his signature style, blending atmospheric textures with pulsating rhythms that evoke both introspection and elation. 

How did the vibrant dance music scene of Las Vegas influence your musical journey and production style?

Las Vegas has always been an international hub for music, going back to the Rat Pack days with Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and the legendary Frank Sinatra. These guys regularly sold out shows in casinos and showrooms. Fast forward to when Paul Oakenfold started performing at Utopia and compared Vegas to Ibiza. Vegas clubs took notice. In 2011, Electric Daisy Carnival moved from LA to Vegas, solidifying it as a premier dance music location. Look up who’s playing any given night in Vegas. At the time of this writing, I can see Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Dillon Francis, Calvin Harris, and Deadmau5 performing regularly here. Some of the biggest names in the scene are right in my backyard, with legends like Oakenfold coming through sometimes. With my style of progressive, deep, and melodic house, it’s hard not to want to mimic the energy you see in the clubs here, day or night.

Can you share the story behind your latest single “See The Sun”? What inspired its creation?

I had been producing melodic techno for a bit and wanted to create something more in the vein of progressive house. I heard Estiva and Jess Ball’s “Carnal Emotion.” Those vocals are amazing, and I set out to emulate the vibe of that track.

How do artists like Estiva, Miss Monique, and Paul Oakenfold influence your sound, and in what ways do you incorporate their elements into your music?

Oakenfold’s “Tranceport” was the first “techno” album I heard when I was 15 or 16 years old. I have been listening to EDM ever since. Miss Monique’s effortless vibes and melodic sounds are a significant influence on the sounds I use. The music has come so far.

Your music often features rich melodies and evocative vocal elements. How do you approach the integration of vocals into your tracks?

I’m not sure how other producers begin their tracks, but I often like to start with a female vocal line and build the track around that, showcasing the voice. As people, we tend to have a carnal connection when hearing a human voice, and it blends effortlessly with music. Rather than producing and then bringing in the vocal, I build around it.

Can you describe the process of blending atmospheric textures with pulsating rhythms in “See The Sun”?

Having the track sit on a nice bed of sound—just enough to notice when it’s gone—really lays the foundation to lay the rhythm for the track. The old Oakenfold and Dave Ralph days of trance sound influence still hold weight in today’s world.

What personal experiences, such as moments with your wife and four dogs, have significantly shaped your music?

The support from my wife has allowed me to put in significant time, which has given me the opportunity to write track after track—some bad, some decent. She has pushed me to refine my sound and get my music into the world. She’ll be the first to cut me down when a track is bad, which is nice!

As a mentor to up-and-coming producers, what advice do you find yourself giving most frequently?

Make as much music as you can. A lot of it will suck at the start, but it will get better if you spend even the smallest amount of time honing your craft every day, even if it’s just 15 minutes. A little plus a little plus a little equals a lot.

How do you balance introspective elements with elation in your tracks to create a unique listening experience?

Music is a push-and-pull effect—not static, but dynamic. I try to enable the listener to get lost in the track and then be brought back with some uplifting vocals to regain their focus. Music is an escape for a lot of people, and if I can help them escape for just a bit, it’s worth it.

What can listeners expect from your track’s inclusion on “Summer Sessions 2024 Volume 2”?

My debut track with Play Records is surrounded by great global talent, coming together to create a soundtrack for summer. By the pool, in the club, or on a road trip, listeners can expect a variety of vibes that fit anywhere this summer.

How does releasing a single like “See The Sun” as part of a compilation differ from a standalone release in terms of your artistic approach and expectations?

Music is meant to be shared. The industry is tight, with artists supporting one another rather than competing for space all the time. With a single release, the focus is really on the artist. With a compilation, I get to support many other artists and gain inspiration from them. Expectations? Just being able to share the experience with fellow artists is worth it.
