EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH : Gianni Romano

Gianni Romano’s journey from the inception of Daddy’s Groove to pioneering his path with MHE showcases a dynamic career built on passion and adaptability. Romano’s dedication extends beyond the decks through the establishment of his record label and Party Switch, reflecting his influence on the industry’s evolution.

In this interview, we delve into Romano’s artistic journey, exploring his motivations, the milestones that have shaped his career, and what’s next for one of house music’s most expressive servants.

How has the year been treating you?

It’s been incredible, with lots of good things happening. My collaboration with Emanuele Esposito, ‘It’s Not Right,’ has gone Platinum. My Switch residency at Blue Marlin Ibiza returns for a second summer.

Where do you think the impulse to create music comes from for you?

My creative process is never the same. I love experimenting and trying new things in the studio. I enjoy collaborating, exchanging ideas, and working with other musicians, singers, or producer friends like Emanuele Esposito, Aüra, and Robin M. They have become my music family and often share the decks with me. I believe sharing always leads to a positive evolution in music.

How do you think your Italian heritage and global travels have influenced your music style and selection?

A great deal. Being born in Naples, a city with many clubs, I had the opportunity to listen to many international artists from an early age. Traveling the world while playing inspired me, and I discovered a creativity within myself that I wanted to explore further. I chose the word “Switch” because it emphasizes the change in my career, both musically and as a producer/DJ. Every Friday, I hosted a party in Naples promoted under this name. It quickly became popular, and I shared the decks with artists like Solomun, Claptone, Hosh, Black Coffee, and Blond:ish. From there, I started my label, Switch Lab, now listed among the most successful Afro House labels in the world.

In what ways do you engage with your fans, and how has their feedback influenced your music or performances?

I believe that being able to tune in with the dance floor is the most important thing for a DJ, and the most rewarding is seeing people get excited, dancing and singing to one of your songs.

How do you incorporate new technologies in your music production and live performances?

I love new technology and always try to use something new in the studio and in my live sets.

What kind of legacy do you aim to leave with your music, and how do you want to impact the electronic music scene?

By always trying to do what I like and what makes me happy, I believe that only in this way can I connect with my audience, letting them experience my real emotions.

Tell us about your current studio setup – any particular bits of go-to kit you find yourself returning to?

I am really enjoying the balance of analog and digital equipment I now have in the studio. I love the sound I get. It is the best setup I have ever had.

Which artists are currently exciting or inspiring you?

The guys from Keinemusik, Anotr, & Black Coffee.

What have been some of your more memorable live performances from the last few months?

The Summer opening of Party Switch at Blue Marlin Ibiza was epic; many of my friends came to experience this dream that I had in my drawer for years. The first record I played was a track of mine which will be released this year, and the reaction from the crowd was incredible.

What should we expect from you for the rest of 2024?

So much! I’ll be spending most of my time in the studio finishing new tracks which will be out this year.
