Welcome to Find Your Sounds! How’s the summer been for you so far?
It’s off to a great start. I’ve been chasing the sun and had amazing gigs in different clubs and countries so far, with more to come!
In previous interviews, you’ve mentioned how early exposure to electronic music shaped your sound. Can you talk about the first track or artist that made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in electronic music?
There are just too many to name, to be honest. However, a standout moment is when a friend in middle school gifted me a Daft Punk CD when I was 12. This had a massive influence on my taste for electronic music and my desire to dig deeper into the industry.
Your tracks are known for their unique blend of techno and deep house. How did you develop this signature sound, and what elements do you consistently focus on to maintain it?
When I started producing, I went through different phases to discover my style, taking inspiration from various artists over time, such as Kaytranada and Grant Nelson in my early days of producing around the age of 16. I still try to discover new tracks and artists regularly to keep my inspiration flowing. Over the last few years, my sound has taken a deeper and funkier turn with influences from artists like Sweely and Kolter. My sound is basically a blend of all the genres I like, and I feel that I’ve finally discovered my own sound!
In a previous interview, you discussed your intricate production process. Can you walk us through a typical studio session for one of your recent tracks, highlighting any new techniques or tools you’ve been using?
I wouldn’t say that any specific techniques or tools are required; I just have a very specific process that I follow religiously. I go into every session with an idea in mind and always start with the main melody. This can take hours before I continue with all the other elements.
Your track on the new Fresh Take VA, “Touch My Soul,” has a distinctly retro feel. Were you listening to a lot of ’80s soundtracks or video games when you made this one?
Definitely a lot of ’80s tracks. I’ve been going through a huge Italo Disco phase recently, which will be quite noticeable in upcoming projects as well.
Can you share a story from a performance that was particularly memorable or transformative for you as an artist?
Two standout moments come to mind. In the summer of 2021, I played an intimate festival in Lille (France) where the energy was infectious and the crowd went wild for every track. More recently, my first-ever gig at Fabric last year was very special. It’s been one of my favorite venues for years, and a huge group of friends came to see me play, with some traveling from other countries just for that night. It’s a memory I truly cherish.
You’ve mentioned in interviews that you draw inspiration from visual art and cinema. How do these non-musical influences find their way into your music production?
I think of my tracks as scenes in a film, aiming to evoke emotions and create immersive experiences through sound. That’s why I give so much focus to the melody in my tracks.
You’ve hinted at exploring new musical directions and incorporating different genres into your work. Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming projects or experiments you’re currently excited about?
I’m incredibly excited to announce that I’ll be releasing my first-ever album later this year, drawing huge inspiration from the ’80s Italo scene. I’ll be hosting a release party at The Lion & Lamb in London on September 19th with friends and special guests. Every attendee will receive a free copy, and I’ll be playing the whole album—so you should definitely join us on the dancefloor!
