Interview

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH : Ravin Mehta

Hey Ravin, it’s great to talk to you today!

Can you tell us a little bit more about Made By Robots – the label that you have established?

Made By Robots is all about the vision and creative potential of using AI in Music. The Label provides a platform for creative experiments with new technology but with the goal to release music that does not have “AI” written all over it. We’re addressing fans of music not necessarily fans of technology.

What inspired you to create this new record label?

AI and music is such a fantastic, new creative space. It’s a revolution that can be compared to the introduction of sampling, sequencing, or synthesizers into modern day music production. Being part of this fast paced and ever-changing thing is just great.

The most recent release is from No Vinyl Mafia, a solely AI project, who dropped the aptly titled EP ‘IN LOVE WITH TECHNOLOGY’. Are you able to share some experiences that influenced the creation of this EP?”

“In Love With Technology” is all about confusing our digital twin personality with real life. It’s a call to keep things real and to remember that responsibility is a choice that everyone must make by themselves. Like the title line of the previous release “Heroes & Villains” said: “We’re a nation on millions – some are heroes, some are villains”

The global electronic music scene is vast and diverse. What regional scenes have you found most inspiring, and how have do the influence your label and the music it chooses to create/put out?

Our headquarter is based in Berlin with a tiny outpost in London. Both regional scenes are obvious choices when it comes to trends in lifestyle, music, and visual art. The possibility to hear and see something fresh and new and to meet new people every night is just that – inspiring.

How do you stay motivated and inspired to keep creating fresh music in the ever-evolving electronic scene?

While some of the music we have released has been created entirely in-house, we are actively looking for collaborations/co-productions with DJs/producers to create new music with more inputs. A good example is “Drop Out”, a track that’s a collaboration between our own GPU (The Generative Punk Underground) and the fantastic @planetberf.

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future in terms of the label and any upcoming projects or collaborations we should be excited about?

No Vinyl Mafia and GPU will continue to release new music throughout the year and there will be 2 new label-native artists coming in the second half of the year – so stay tuned!

What advice would you give to upcoming producers who want to blend music elements with modern electronic sounds?

I hear and read a lot of worries when it comes to AI and music. But I think soon we’ll see very successful music that’s AI based but also unique and artistically relevant. And that’s the place where the next wave of talented producers and stars will be born…
