French-born, Manchester-based electro-pop artist Fleur Rouge, returns with her first release of 2023. Bristling and brooding, Sagittarius is the fourth and final track to be released from Fleur’s EP, What Makes You Think I Care?.
Sagittarius is yet another example of Fleur’s distinctive approach to songwriting, creating hypnotic electronic pop music. Opening with the now customary beat-driven sonics that has become Fleur’s trademark, Sagittarius is fused together by a memorable chorus and Fleur’s breathtakingly elegant vocal.
The single explores misogynistic attitudes Fleur has experienced, touching on how she has ultimately reclaimed ownership of her own sexuality, illustrated by the line, “…I couldn’t care less bout u or ur status…”. The single is a natural bookend to an EP that has focussed on Fleur’s difficulty in dealing with the strain of growing up in an age where many crave vapid ‘likes’ rather than a true emotional connection. With five new tracks already recorded, and an EP on the way later this year, Fleur Rouge is aiming to make 2023 a year to remember.
The track showcases Fleur’s ability to meld gritty beats, intense melodies and personal lyricism. Sagittarius follows on from last years release of singles ‘Cold Feet’, ‘Wasteland’ and, finally, ‘Vices’ which announced Fleur’s future-pop style of electro to the world. Unashamedly autobiographical, Fleur’s profoundly honest approach to sonrgwrtitng attracted the attention of tastemakers from home and abroad, ranging from Clash Magazine to Iggy Magazine and BBC Introducing to Ones To Watch.
Sagittarius is taken from What Makes You Think I Care?, both out now.
