Save As builds his forward-facing house sounds from the basslines up, which are informed by his love of soul and hip-hop and have generated plenty of attention for the man behind them. The French artist’s discography speaks for itself and takes in credits on labels such as Repopulate Mars, Low Ceiling and South of Saturn, while influential names like Pete Tong and MEDUZA have shown support. Following up his 2021 ‘Memory Lane’ EP on the latter imprint, Save As now returns with the heady two-tracker, ‘Fiction Vibe’.
“Through this EP, I wanted to bring back some energy to the scene after taking a year off. I needed music that had energy and intensity. For ‘Fiction Vibe, ‘ I began by digging into vocals and discovered a compelling hook. I then laid down a solid bassline and added a synth with a spacey quality. On ‘Moves Operator, ‘ I concentrated on a funkier and more experimental vocal approach coupled with a bubbly rhythm, providing the perfect foundation for the vocals and creating an overall energetic and uplifting vibe, making it dancefloor-ready.” – Save As.
Title cut ‘Fiction Vibe’ kicks off with a low-slung groove and hazy claps that make you move, while a wiggling bassline, retro vocal stabs, and some trippy synth sequences add extra colour to bring this party starter to life. ‘Moves Operator’ then keeps it deep and gritty with glitchy percussion and tight drums underpinned by a bobbling bassline. It’s minimal but impactful tech house with futuristic synth work twisting and turning throughout the mix to hypnotic effect.
Save As ‘Fiction Vibe’ EP drops via South Of Saturn on 21st February 2025.
