Gutta, aka Federico Guttadauro, has made an art of joining the dots between the old school and the new in his music. He is well-versed in the foundations of house and tech and builds on them with his own fresh style. Everything he does is defined by groovy bass, and that has seen him play the likes of Croatia’s cult Barrakud Festival and the world-renowned elrow. He has released on labels such as Moan and collaborated with peers including Hito and Federico Grazzini, and now makes another big impression with this debut on Motel Calypso Records.
The fantastic ‘Picante’ is as hot and spicy as the title suggests. It is tightly programmed tech house with tight rhythms and languid percussive lines carefully woven together. A steamy female vocal is worked in up top to really set the groove on fire with plenty of Spanish flair and a fat bassline that never quits. The superb ‘Plastic Groove’ is a deeper sound with dubby undercurrents but sharp, snappy drums. A vast bassline rolls like a tsunami beneath whirring synths and raw, sleazy vocals that are sure to get the dance floor going wild.
