HAAi releases new single ‘Can’t Stand To Lose’ via Mute

HAAi has released a new single called ‘Can’t Stand To Lose’. The single, out now on Mute, centres on HAAi’s own vocals and lyrics and marks a shift in the London-based Australian producer and DJ’s output. In an Instagram post titled “Next Chapter” from this past weekend, Teneil Throssell shared, “For me it’s symbolic of a creative fork in the road and one that I’m so excited to invite people into. I’ve always considered myself a musician and songwriter before anything else. I’ve loved re-awakening this side of myself, by exploring sounds away from the dance floor and re-centring my vocals in my music.”

She continued: “What’s to come is very different from the music I play when I’m DJing, but I’m excited about pursuing these two very different creative avenues in parallel, and grateful for everyone coming along for the ride.”

‘Can’t Stand To Lose’ marks HAAi’s first new release since her 2023 DJ-Kicks mix, featuring the ‘Always Ascending’ single with Jon Hopkins and KAM-BU, and the 2022 album ‘Baby We’re Ascending’, also on Mute. The new track’s lyrics “[reflect] on longing, loss, and the deeply human emotions that accompany them — the nostalgia, the yearning, and the vulnerability”, she said in a press statement. “It’s inspired by our rapidly changing world and how it reshapes our lives: opening possibilities that are initially exciting, but are soon met with the realisation of what’s lost. It’s a meditation on what we gain and what we leave behind.”

To celebrate the new track and HAAi’s artistic direction, she’ll host her next UNiSON party on 15th Match at London’s The Cause. She’ll be joined by ANZ and IceMorph, with secret back-to-back sets planned — find more event information here.
