Standing side-by-side, the parallels between Habstrakt and Asdek are remarkable. They were both born in France. They run the gamut as far as genres go. And they both kicked off their projects in 2011, the year when the blog house scene—heavily influenced by the French touch movement of the ‘90s—fizzled into a faint memory. These similarities become glaringly obvious as the two producers step forth with their latest single.

Funky and packed with flavor, “Won’t You” is a nostalgic single tipping its hat to filter house, à la seminal acts like Cassius, Daft Punk, and Justice. Its swooshing, phaser-infused bass licks provide a heartbeat for the soulful vocal hooks to loop around stuttering, disco-flecked leads. The track veers off with purpose, shifting from swinging, syncopated rhythms to a crunchy, bassline-driven climax. It is a house record that offers up innovation by the bundle, creating a new pathway for them to explore.

Praising the work of his frequent partner-in-crime, Habstrakt shares his enthusiasm, saying, “So excited about a new collab with my longtime brother, Asdek, who’s on his first US tour and just opened for me in LA. This one hits different.”

Breaking down what makes the single so forward-thinking, Asdek adds, “With my brother Habstrakt, we decided to blend our French touch sampling culture with our UK garage influences, and create a hybrid: the French garage.”

France-born, LA-based Habstrakt is a producer whose command over lower frequencies comes second to none. The release follows Habstrakt’s outing with GOTTA MOVE last month, “Off My Head,” his screeching, neon-lit rave single alongside ElmyX and singer-songwriter Simona Shao. Venturing the furthest from his baseline than ever before, the track was met with media coverage from Iggy Magazine, The Nocturnal Times, EKM, Future House Music, Find Your Sounds, and Househead. It also coincided with his headline show at Exchange LA, where he hosted a special 360° set with live support from Asdek

Parisian producer Asdek has proven that the limit for exploring genres does not exist. For nearly two decades, he’s pushed himself to the bleeding edge of club music. From bassline and electro, to his more recent foray into trap and dubstep, there’s a reason why the gold-certified artist continues to catch the ears of tastemakers from the likes of Fred Again…, Skrillex, RL Grime, DJ Snake, and more. He brings that same genre-defying gusto to “Won’t You,” capping off a milestone debut tour in the States, including two support shows for Knock2, as well as his electrifying performance with Habby in DTLA.

With “Won’t You,” the French pairing not only celebrates their cultural roots with a single that channels the canonical artists from their home country, but does so in a way that could very well open up the door for reincarnation come 2026.

Habstrakt and Asdek’s new single “Won’t You” is available on all platforms via GOTTA MOVE.
