Hailing from the Dominican Republic, Tokischa Altagracia Peralta, better known as Tokischa is the J.Balvin and Rosalia collaborating queer rapper whose latest song “Tukuntazo” has helped cross over the sound of Dominica’s dembow into the mainstream. Blending trap, dembow and reggaetón, Tokischa’s sound and notoriously rebellious lyrics are unapologetic celebrations of her bi-sexual emancipation, promoting a lifestyle without hypocrisy, without gender stereotypes and anti-norms.
Harlem born and raised producer Austin Millz is moving the song further into the mainstream with his Tukuntazo Remix, released today on Roc Nation’s Equity Distribution.
Hot off the back of his remix of Mariah Carey’s Always be my Baby, Millz delivers a high-octane rework of Tokischa’s original which is geared for the dancefloor. Bringing his signature “Millz bounce” a infectious and energetic blend of funk and soul-infused house, seamlessly infused alongside Haraca Kiko, and El Cherry Scom’s beats.
Speaking about the remix Millz said, “I’m a huge fan of Tokischa’s sound and the no holds barred approach she takes as an artist. I’ve been following her for a long time and she inspired me to tap into my Afro-Latino / Puerto Rican roots with this remix. I did the flip of the track online and it had such a good reaction so I’m ecstatic her team gave it the green light and we’re able to release it collaboratively”.
