Enigmatic electronic duo HI MOTIVE are back for 2020 with their new single ‘Free Me’, an anthemic blend of electronic and pop, showing off the incredible production talents from the young duo. This follows a stellar 2019 with their debut release ‘Falling’ reaching #1 on the Triple J Unearthed Electronic Charts and their most recent single ‘Gone’ played on triple j’s Friday Night Shuffle after premiering with Pilerats.

The new single ‘Free Me’ explores the desire to return to a once-held feeling of freedom and liberation during a time of uncertainty. Matt and Ed first wrote the lyrics to ‘Free Me’ back in 2017 whilst spending time up in Matt’s home state of Queensland, during a time where he was facing some existential questioning in his life.

Based in Inner Sydney now, HI MOTIVE’s Matt and Ed first began writing music together in their dorm room at UNSW in 2014. With Ed hailing from Tasmania and Matt from Queensland, the pair found their common love of music and haven’t looked back, forming a band together before discovering electronic music.

Since forming in 2019, HI MOTIVE have been performing and developing their electronic live show. After performing at Electronic Music Conference in December (EMC) the duo signed with NICHE’s Jess Wust for bookings, going on to support BOO SEEKA in Ulladulla on their 2019 Indo Summer Series Tour.

The duo are not slowing down either, heading over to Berlin and LA to write more music, building towards their debut EP release and headline tour in late 2020.
