Having dropped material on the likes of Frequenza and Dance Lab Records under his techno moniker Karpe Diem, the India-born, San Francisco-based talent Vig Shetty now dons his Moh Maya alias and comes out of the traps with a more organic and melodic house-driven sound, landing first on Bedouin’s Human By Default.
“Moh Maya, which in Hinduism means – it’s all an illusion – is an alter ego, which was born out of my spiritual journey post-pandemic in 2022. By incorporating a more eclectic sound design including groovy basslines and driving melodies – I aim to continue to release music that truly resonates with parts of the cultures across the world with a message to celebrate life, music and love” – Moh Maya.
The title track ‘Alchemist’ is ever-evolving world music with a dancefloor twist where live percussive elements and rolling basslines meet an enchanting, drawn-out sufi vocal. ‘El Gallo Dos’ is just as distinctive, as loopy grooves are nestled amongst hypnotic vocal calls and melancholic guitar sections.
