Infected Mushroom Reimagine Alannah Myles’ 1989 Classic “Black Velvet” Featuring Ninet Tayeb on Monstercat

Legendary Israeli psytrance duo Infected Mushroom today have revealed the latest addition to their forthcoming ‘IM25’ album, with a rocktronic rendition of Alannah Myles’ 1989 classic song, “Black Velvet.” Featuring fellow Israeli singer-songwriter Ninet Tayeb, the trio have transformed the #1 original into a glitchy synth-driven remake with amplified guitar chords and sultry vocals. While the JUNO and GRAMMY-winning record was written as an ode to Elvis Presley’s charm as the king of rock ‘n roll, Infected Mushroom’s version takes on a deeper meaning for the producer pair. As they celebrate their quarter-century legacy, “Black Velvet” is a product of their genre versatility and early influences, reflective of their unconventional journey through time and sound.

Infected Mushroom share, “When Covid started, we built two separate studios in both of our houses. I wanted to do a cover of a 90’s song and as I was browsing for ideas with my wife, “Black Velvet” really stuck out. I could feel how I wanted it to sound in our style so I called Erez and told him. His mom was visiting at the time and it happened to be her favorite song. Erez and I got to work on it with Yosi, our new guitarist, and his wife is Ninet. Even before he came on board, my idea was for Ninet to sing it as I envisioned her voice and vibe would be perfect for that song. We got closer in Covid times in LA, and Ninet and Yosi became family. The song ties in with the ‘IM25’ album as it’s a compilation of trance, psytrance, and a lot of unusual collaborations of Infected and other amazing artists and bands. This is one of our favorite songs on the album and I can’t wait for you to hear it.

As Infected Mushroom prepare to launch their next full-length body of work, they’ll stay busy on the road with immersive shows around the world. Through to fall, fans can catch them live in over 15 locations including Budapest, London, Berlin, Paris, and Amsterdam at Monstercat’s anticipated ADE Showcase.

Infected Mushroom Bio

After twenty five years making waves in the scene, Infected Mushroom has earned their reputation as a groundbreaking legend in electronic music. Twice ranked amongst the world’s “10 Best DJ’s” by DJ Magazine, with streaming numbers in the tens of millions and a cult following of die-hard fans, the Israel-bred, LA-based duo has created one of the most powerful kingdoms in the world of electronic music.

The combined force of Israeli producers Amit “Duvdev” Duvdevani and Erez Eisen, Infected is world-renowned for their sonic innovations, genre-defying sound, and unrivaled production quality. This trademark sound is cultivated through hypnotic arrangements, layered melodies, and a willingness to blur the lines of genre.

While widely recognized as pioneers of psytrance music, over the years Infected has demonstrated an ability to not only break the rules, but create their own rulebook entirely, and inspire other artists to do the same. Since 1999, they have been on a non-stop worldwide tour, selling out shows and headlining festivals around the globe.

This year Infected Mushroom is celebrating twenty five years as a powerhouse of electronic music, and they are honoring this milestone with a new album – aptly named ‘IM25.’

When the Covid-19 pandemic shuttered live shows in 2020, Duvdev and Erez took advantage of being off the road by cooking up yet another album of bangers. Infected has always been a master of collaborations, and ‘IM25’ is no exception with tracks featuring Bliss, Hope 6, Ninet Tayeb, Nick Hexum from 311, and more.

‘IM25’ will be released globally via Monstercat in September.

Ninet Tayeb Bio

Los Angeles based alternative rock ‘n’ roll musician Ninet Tayeb is more than a household name in her home country. From her winning “Israeli Idol” to starring in a long-running tv show about her life, the acclaimed singer, songwriter, and actress is arguably the biggest entertainment figure in the country. These days, her celebrity status knows no boundaries as she is showing America what real music is all about.

In 2012 she took a pause from releasing music in Hebrew to make her debut album in English, “Sympathetic Nervous System.” It was produced by Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice) and recorded at Motor Museum Studios in Liverpool. The positive response to her music in English led to the release of “Paper Parachute” in 2017, which continues to receive glowing reviews and sparked more singles throughout 2018 and 2019.

These songs reveal an artist with deep resilience, fierce determination, and disarming vulnerability. Along with an unflinching vision of her own path, those are traits that have allowed Ninet to emerge as the wild and free voice you hear on her records.

Ninet is an artist who stands her ground and has made her way on her own terms. Her favorite way to connect to her audience is through her visceral, dynamic, and potentially messy live performances. Ninet’s musicianship draws hints of inspiration from PJ Harvey, Chris Cornell, Foo Fighters, Portishead, Bob Dylan, and more. Her unyielding, inspiring energy and artistic brilliance has attracted interest from Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR Tiny Desk, NYLON, and more. Ninet continues to shake up the American alt-rock scene with new music and more live performances on the way in 2022.
