German-born, Long Beach-based INFEKT showcased his wonky, boundary-pushing riddim sound on his recent five-track ‘Back To Back’ EP on Bassrush Records. The standout lead single “Da Pit” saw INFEKT connecting with Ottawa’s Hamro and rapper XAE for a blistering anthem. Taking listeners back to “Da Pit” comes the stacked official remix pack, which features Aweminus, Codd Dubz, BLVNKSPVCE & SQISHI, Decimate, PYKE, and Fine Buster, plus a VIP from the original don himself, INFEKT.

Leading the charge is an epic re-imagination from Italian dubstep menace Automhate and UK riddim maniac Mad Dubz. The mafia-approved melodic interpretation adds orchestral strings and choir-sung renditions of the vocal hook to create a mob-ready aesthetic. The intro and breaks are a gripping cinematic experience while the drops swerve into a concussive episode of wompy, squirmy, stabby sound design that could make the most wanted list. Expertly moving between raucous riddim and the sweeping soundscapes conjured by the strings makes for one of the most inventive and unique takes on “Da Pit.”
Mad Dubz breaks down what it means to rework the song, saying, “‘Da Pit’ has been a huge inspiration to both of us since it first was premiered. We knew after hearing it that we had to put our own twist on the soon-to-be classic.”
Leaving all pleasantries at the door is Aweminus’ skull-splitting take. Moody bass tones slide under rolling percs and a sense of swelling unease. The drops hit like crushing waves, as discordant and dark sounds drift between screechy and beastly. The spine-tingling lead is bent and twisted—along with the listener’s synapses—while Aweminus pushes the boundaries of his sound design to new depths. Echoing drums and vocals from the original round out the unnerving exploration.
Aweminus breaks down how his friendship with INFEKT made this happen, stating, “I’ve been tight with INFEKT for ages, and when he asked me to jump on for a remix, I knew I couldn’t say no.”
Adding to the depth of the pack is a filthy remix from BLVNKSPVCE and SQISHI. Vinyl record scratches and gritty boom-bap-inspired melodic flourishes afford the track with its hip-hop backbone in the intro, while the vocals are pitched and bent for an even more menacing sound. The drops are beastly and glitchy, layering head-splitting sound design with metallic percussion, and filthy low-end. The laser synths fire through the speakers like an onslaught from a futuristic war machine taking no prisoners.
The pair share their excitement about being a part of the project: “We are happy to be onboard for this remix compilation for one of the biggest tunes of 2024. When our brother HAMRO asked us to be on it, we got to cooking immediately and we’re really excited for people to hear what we created.”
Taking the pit to an interplanetary dimension comes Codd Dubz’s take on the anthem. Blurring the lines between West Coast gangster rap and horror influences, the introduction offers a signature swagger that’s rocketed beyond the stratosphere as the track is blasted into the cosmos with an otherworldly assault. Robotic sound design collides against the vocals of the original, twisted low-end, and pounding drums. It’s a cacophonous barrage of auditory insanity that hits in all the right ways. Despite its two-minute run time, the track manages to take listeners on a mind-bending adventure.
Codd Dubz shares his approach to the remix, saying, “I was really excited to get the call to remix this one. I wanted to keep the original energy while incorporating my own sound design and approach to it. Thanks to INFEKT, HAMRO, and XAE for having me on this one!”
Offering an off-kilter take on the track is PYKE’s rework. What makes this version stand out is the groove and bounce. The anonymous figure plays with the percussion, adding and removing layers while shifting the timing for an undeniable groove. The mixture of head-nodding bounce with sludgy sound design collide for maximal impact. Minimal breaks deepen the street-savvy aesthetic and amplify the intensity of the drops.
Fine Buster switches the style up by adding in organic sounding instrumentation with sharp brass. The looped vocals give the rework an instant hook while paying homage to the original. Walls of thick low-end connect over brutish frequencies and creative drum programming. Innovative flourishes, twisted sound design, and hints of trap in the percussion round out the immersive rework.
A simple but effective melody lays the foundation for Decimate’s take on “Da Pit.” Sweeping low-end textures, lasers, and filtered vocals tease what lies ahead. The mosh-pit-inducing drops see the vocals chopped and looped with expert precision while the low-end harnesses the power to rattle speaker stacks and decimate dancefloors. The second drop expands on the filth of the first, adding slightly more space without lessening the intensity in the slightest.
Explaining how he approached the remix, Decimate says, “Making this remix, I tried to keep the original integrity of the sounds intact while tossing my ‘deci’ flare in there.”
Drawing the project to a close comes INFEKT’s VIP version of “Da Pit”. The overall structure remains quite consistent with the OG run length, only being reduced by a single second. While many of the original elements remain intact, INFEKT finds a way to conjure an even deeper layer of filth and, in turn, up the ante. The guttural sub-bass leads, sinister vocalizations, slamming drums, and drilling synths hit with an even harder level of intensity, giving fans a variation that embodies everything that made the original so massive, while still adding in some freshness for 2025.
INFEKT and HAMRO’s new 8-track ‘Da Pit (Remixes)’ sees some of the dubstep and riddim scenes’ deadliest forces put their unique spin on the brutish anthem.
