German-born, Canada-based producer INFEKT is a trailblazing figure in the dubstep scene, renowned for his dark and minimal twist on riddim and experimental bass. Pulling from a host of influences comes his destructive five-track EP, ‘Back To Back.’ The project arrives on Bassrush Records and follows the success of the lead single “Da Pit,” which shot to the #1 spot on the Dubstep Chart on Beatport.

Leading off the EP comes “No Cap,” a no-nonsense riddim ripper set for club destruction. Built around metallic sound design and pulsing low-end, the track adds in hypnotic pitched-down vocal samples that embody an addictive yet filthy feel. As they are chopped and looped, the track explodes into an onslaught of chest-pounding riddim scored by stabby synths, off-kilter percussion, and booming bass. A minimalist break offers a slowed-up reprieve before hitting fans with an explosive, retooled second drop that somehow manages to become even more menacing and merciless.
Living up to its name, his collaboration alongside HAMRO takes listeners into “DA PIT.” XAE’s raps demand attention from the outset, as he gives listeners fair warning of what’s to come. The looped bars are filtered and layered over foreboding melodies and metallic percussion. Allowing the screamed rap vocals to take center stage, the bars help ratchet the intensity to peak levels before unleashing the devastating dubstep drops. Guttural sub-bass leads, sinister vocalizations, slamming drums, and drilling synths collide at neck-breaking pace. The swinging and hammering cacophony is sure to incite mosh pits in every city where the track rings off. Beastly, in your face, and drenched in filth, “DA PIT” is just what you’d expect from this three-headed monster.
“B2B” is a brain-bending barrage of bass with sinister undertones. The namesake vocals echo through the intro while sci-fi soundscapes create an ominous tension. Crisp drums descend into wonky explosions of drippy low-end and filthy sound design explorations. The vocals reverberate through the drop as mind-melting ear candy is layered in. Staying true to his signature, the track moves between stripped-back vocals, percussion-driven breakdowns, and bass-heavy blasts. The dark energy and maddening loops conjure images of a mad scientist creating a monster. “B2B” packs the room-filling sound that’s at home from basement clubs to festival stages.
The penultimate track “DOODLE” is a lethal dose of riddim injected straight into the veins. Pairing video game tones, elastic textures, and a wacky flow, the track transports listeners to another dimension. Building upon his trademark wobbling technique, INFEKT takes it to an extreme level with scrunchy low-end squiggles, razor-sharp drums, and an aesthetic that screams annihilation. Lazery synth shots, growling sub-bass and pitched vox round out the maniacal offering. “DOODLE” sees unbridled creativity meet raucous riddim for a free-flowing scorcher.
Drawing things to a close comes the fittingly titled “ELITE.” Proving that INFEKT is a master over any domain, the track sees him broadening well beyond the sound found across the rest of the project. A meandering melody mixes hints of rave-ready nostalgia with a sense of intrigue. Impactful breakbeat drums crash over the dizzying soundscape as low-end pulses from the void. The mystery finds its way back in as the filtered break strips away layers without losing its allure. Shapeshifting with surgeon-like precision, “ELITE” expands into a pummeling techno weapon that heightens the energy to a peak.
INFEKT gives listeners a sample of what to expect from the EP, saying, “This year, I just explored so many styles and techniques, I couldn’t stop creating. From the OG dubstep sounds of the title track to the classic INFEKT flows, and even some breakbeats and techno on “ELITE,” it’s another display of exactly what I love making.”
Born in Germany but now based out of Montreal, INFEKT has been slaying the dubstep scene with a sick concoction of dark dubstep and deadly, contagious riddim. He’s hot off his ‘Veggie Friends’ Tour with 42 stops around the world, including shows at HARD Summer Music Festival, Forbidden Kingdom, Paradise Blue, and venues in the US, ANZ, and UK. INFEKT is a favorite in the scene, with his music drawing support from Skrillex, Zeds Dead, SIPPY, and Fox Stevenson, in addition to press coverage from Dubstep FBI, This Song Slaps, Dub Rebellion, Relentless Beats, DISTOPIC, and Find Your Sounds.
