The beloved Berlin label Ismus, once defunct, now revived under the wing of Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT, lets loose ‘Time Capsule 002’, out now, the second of a series of VA compilations (alternating with VA LPs of all-new releases). The VA is comprised of re-released Ismus tracks deserving a second life.
‘Time Capsule 002’ tracks: Oposition’s ‘Astronomical Bodies’ is spacey, pacey, low buzzing bass, portentous invocation, & melodic trancey arps, before KRL MX lets rip bouncy hard techno, urgent vocal rhyme, hoover sirens in ‘Versace Club’. KLAMER’s driving electro brings bongo-esque beats, ominous plangent notes, alien sound FX & ethereal synth to ‘France Galop’, while ABEM’s ‘Black Powder’ has futurist doppler FX, pizzicato synth, stuttering stabs & pitch-shifted vocal. Next up is Introversion, deep hypnotic techno artist, with ‘Sedna’’s complex, clattering breaksy beat & echoing pulsing synth, then 1luu mixing Happy Hardcore/Makina in ‘Francium’ for 90s-flavour upbeat melodic synth as euphoria hits light speed; now a mood shift with Wallis and her melancholy melodic techno in ‘The Second Rule’ with a dark underbelly & robotic textures. Alpha Tracks follows with ‘Valimba’, futuristic swoops, reverb-y riffs, acidic morse pattern and ‘overheard radio’ style vocal; psytrance/progressive ace Einsiedler’s ‘Aftermath (AnD Remix)’ has multilayered distortion, almost-heard whispering, mind-melting acid & frantic synth. Amazingblaze ends with ‘Stargaze’ – hard trance meets techno/90s rave inspo armed with scattery percussion, twanging acid & excitable melodic arps. Every track a high-energy speedball ride.
