JENSYN UNVEILS NEW SINGLE ‘SOMEBODY ELSE’

A SLOW-BURNING SINGLE THAT’S AN ALT-POP MEDITATION ON HEARTBREAK & THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF SIMPLE ENDINGS

Liverpool-based queer non-binary artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jensyn is back with new single ‘Somebody Else’, released on 5th May 2026. Produced and mixed by Jensyn themselves, the track is an intimate, atmospheric alt-pop slow-burn that captures the emotional turbulence of watching someone you’ve loved start to move on, and all the conflicting, tangled feelings that come with it.

‘Somebody Else’ opens quietly and intimately, pairing Jensyn’s close, layered vocals with sparse guitar and ambient textures before building through a series of clever rhythmic shifts into a dramatic, gritty final section that lands with real emotional weight. The arrangement is deliberate in its restraint: dry, barebones, and all the more powerful for it. Real drums courtesy of Matthew Humphries, piano from Niamh Mailer, and guitar from Jack O’Hanlon lift the track into something raw and alive, a sound equally at home on late-night headphone playlists as it is in an intimate live room. Mastered by James Wyatt at Sloe Flower Studios.

“It obviously reminds me of a specific moment and person in my life but I think it’s also just about the complexity of break ups. You never just hate someone, and it’s not always just one person’s fault. If it was, arguably that would be an easier set of emotions to deal with. As an anxious individual, overthinking often causes a lot of additional pain and that is usually the motivation for me to write music.” – Jensyn

The track grew from a period of personal reckoning: the aftermath of a difficult situationship, the first relationship following a long-term partnership, and the self-knowledge that came with it. Where other artists might reach for polish to paper over that rawness, Jensyn leans into the opposite. ‘Somebody Else’ is stripped back, emotionally direct, and all the richer for its honesty. The release follows a strong run of recent singles including ‘Golden’ and ‘Not the Same’, the latter of which drew praise from The Other Side Reviews for its “dreamy production, folk-inflected textures, and emotional vulnerability” and its portrayal of heartbreak without villains. ‘Somebody Else’ continues in that same vein, adding a grittier, more rock-leaning edge to Jensyn’s sound.

Jensyn has been writing and producing since the age of 14, honing a sound built on lush harmonies, driving bass lines, and hazy, drone-drenched textures. Rooted in queer experience, their lyrics are direct, defiant, and impossible to ignore. Their collaborative approach to music-making, shaped by Liverpool’s close-knit community of musician friends, is central to how they work. Fans of Phoebe Bridgers, MUNA, The Japanese House, boygenius, Arlo Parks, and Caroline Polachek will find something to hold onto here.

‘Somebody Else’ is the first in a run of forthcoming singles, with a second release following on 26th May and a third on 16th June. An exciting and consistently evolving voice in UK alt-pop, Jensyn is one to watch closely.
