As ever with Jorkes’s releases, this EP comes with provocative artwork from their muse, Daniel Rajcsanyi and is the latest in a long line of recent successes that have seen them enter the podcast series of RA, XLR8R, DJ Mag and Groove.
Jorkes co-runs the Freeride Millenium imprint and is synonymous with evocative house and disco sounds on labels like Aus, Live At Robert Johnson and permanent Vacation. Their work centres on gender, queer and egalitarian attitudes, whether in the studio, DJ booths of the world’s best clubs, or via their radio show on Radio 80000 and residency at Stuttgart’s Romantica.
This latest musical expression kicks off with ‘Super Hot Lover’, a pulsating house cut with joyous piano chords and thudding Chicago kicks. Wordless vocal coos bring a subtle hint of erotica, while the acid line and explosive synths will tantalise any crowd in signature Jorkes style. ‘Follow Me To The Toilet’ is a more slow-burning sound that builds in lush layers of rippling synth warmth and rubbery drums. It’s a straight-ahead groove that never quits but is doused in loved-up feelings.
Cult Berlin duo CYRK step up to remix ‘Super Hot Lover’ and bring lashings of acid and old-school piano pomp. Their drums have a crisp snap to make for a more direct dance floor impact. Chris Cruse is founder and resident of the Spotlight party and label in Los Angeles adn is one half of Couple Looking with Massimiliano Pagliara. Here he remixes ‘Follow Me To The Toilet’ into a bouncing house workout with sci-fi chords that search across the face of the fat groove.
