Freeride Millenium label head Jorkes sits right at the heart of the European scene. Their DJ sets and productions are famously emotionally charged and draw from house and disco from across the ages. They come on labels like AUS, Permanent Vacation and Live At Robert Johnson and alongside Jorkes’s work as a vocal LGBTQIA+ activist who always centres marginalised people in what they do alongside partner Daniel Rajcsanyi, who always provides original artwork for the releases.
This new EP is a homage to the bathhouse cruising lifestyle and is themed under Jorkes’s lover’s ‘Paris Böhm’ alias, as he is a ‘Massagiste’ at Apollo gay city sauna in the heart of Vienna, which is where Freeride Millennium hosted sauna parties.
‘+4367762558223’ kicks off with thumping house drums and a grinding bassline before tender, molten synth sounds swirl about the mix to bring intimacy and romance. Melancholic leads extend the lushness further amongst muffled vocal musings. The loved-up ‘Pool’ is awash with exuberant old-school piano chords and dusty Chicago drums that bring the good times. ‘Apollo City Sauna’ shows a vulnerable side to Jorkes’s sound, with introverted synth work and rubbery basslines providing deep thought and late-night dancing. Closer ‘In My Arms’ is a five-minute synth odyssey full of self-reflection and tender keys that soothe the soul.
