Katie MF releases punk-rock protest song ‘Work Drinks’

Punk-folk singer Katie MF gears up for the release of her debut album, False Starts, Open Endings, with the unveiling of latest single, Work Drinks.

The song, following on from previous single Japanese Whiskey, is delivered with the gusto of legendary protest songs of years gone by. Katie tackles themes surrounding the patriarchy, power dynamics and societal expectations related to female conformity. With a driving beat, rousing harmonies and scuzzy guitar, the track runs breathlessly for just over two and a half minutes.

Creating a style of music that isn’t easy to categorise, Katie’s passionate delivery, thought provoking lyricism and rowdy live shows have captivated audiences far and wide. This has led to slots playing alongside the likes of Frank TurnerSpanish Love SongsPkew Pkew PkewChris FarrenLightyearJim Lockey & The Solemn Sun and Lauran Hibberd.

Work Drinks and Japanese Whiskey are a perfect showcase of what False Starts, Open Endings has to offer; a record that embodies Katie’s punk sensibilities while showcasing her literate, earnest songwriting. This is further illustrated by the foot stomping vibrancy of opening track ‘Lucky MF’, written in the aftermath of a freak car accident where a chunk of metal crashed through the windscreen narrowly missing Katie’s head, to the bittersweet love ballad of ‘August Arrived’.

Work Drinks is out now and is taken from debut album, False Starts, Open Endings, out on 15th September 2023 via Lockjaw Records.
