Manchester duo Kazimi return with ‘Errant Nodes’, a pumping dancefloor track built on big melodic hooks and joyous energy. It’s the band’s most electronic-leaning release to date: synth-driven, punchy and packed with momentum.
Formed by Tom Chapman and Jon Needham, Kazimi blend jazz and dance music into a high-octane sound built on pounding electronic grooves, sizzling improvisation and mind-bending odd-time jams. Over the past two years the pair have been writing and producing their own strain of electronic jazz, with 2025 releases ‘Storming Jupiter’ and ‘Mauve Coconut’ (both accompanied by live videos) marking the start of the project. That work follows more than 20 combined years of experience as band members for other artists and creative projects, an ethos of collaboration that continues on their current releases through features from saxophonist Jimmy Stuttard and keyboardist Liviu Gheorghe.
On the track’s creative process, the band said: “This one felt like a real breakthrough for us in our writing process. We took a single idea and just kept pulling more out of it. It’s a lot more compositionally mature than the earlier tunes, and it genuinely felt like an evolution in how we write together. The track goes through a lot of different moods and dynamics, and the structure’s pretty complex, but there was always this thread tying it back into one piece. That gave us this weird freedom, like we could take the tune absolutely anywhere and it would still tie together.”
‘Errant Nodes’ arrives ahead of Kazimi’s debut EP, due early 2027, which will see the band’s full range of writing and production realised. Manchester’s music scene doesn’t quite have a natural home for what the band do, sitting between the city’s indie rock circuit, club and DJ culture, and the traditional jazz scene, but the city has given them something else instead: access to excellent musicians and training at the Royal Northern College of Music, which has shaped how both members write and play.
Fans of Knower, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Charli XCX and Evan Marien will find plenty to enjoy here.
LIVE DATES:Kazimi play the Peer Hat on 7th October 2026.
QUOTES FROM ARTIST ON PAST RELEASES:
‘Storming Jupiter’ – “The first track we properly wrote! This one is really inspired by the band RKDIA. We wanted a very syncopated, dance-y synth part to go alongside really driving drums. Our good friend Jimmy Stuttard came in and added a great saxophone solo at the end, again really inspired by RKDIA.”
‘Mauve Coconut’ – “A more ‘mathy’ song than Storming Jupiter or Errant Nodes. The bulk of the song is based around an odd time signature riff, and transitions through a few different time signatures. We were a bit more ambitious production wise with this one. Liviu Gheorghe, who plays in our live set up put an amazing keyboard solo down at the end.”
