“Northern Star” is an immersive emotional dubstep offering that balances a distant sense of hope against the weight of the world. Breathy vocal bends and melancholic keys conjure a sense of wistful reflection. Luma’s lush delivery is airy and breathtaking, capturing the heavy burden of dealing with desperation in isolation. As the lyrics look to the sky for a guiding light, otherworldly arps and tension-building drums envelop into an epic release. Soaring melodies intertwine with heavenly vocal bends, as glitchy flourishes transcend into a cacophony of shrieking sub-bass and metallic percussion. Darkness descends in the stripped-back break before building into an epic climax built around towering synths and awe-inspiring vocal chops.
KEPIK breaks down the message behind the release, saying, “For anyone who’s ever felt the weight of another day press down like it might break you; for those long drives in the dark where the silence gets loud, and the road feels endless. Because everybody’s got a northern star, that distant light that keeps them looking up, even when everything feels too heavy to carry.”
