Wonky and high-spirited, “Champagne” is a potent house cut spilling over with UK influence. Pitched-up hip-hop vocal loops repeat over growling garage low-end, with its ecstatic lyrics celebrating the step up from indigent to overindulgence. Sustained string pads and lavish synth bellows add a layer of luxury to the overall tone—while sharp, shuffling percussion and clangorous stab leads help to keep the track rooted in a gritty, rave-ready vibe.
Speaking on the single, lau.ra shares, “‘Champagne’ covers all my favourite territory: a little bit wonky; a little bit ravey; a little bit hip-hop; but ultimately, housey. I’ve been playing this in my sets the past few months, and it wins crowds over instantly. It’s got good energy and perfectly sums up where my sound is at right now.”
Based out of an English town called Battle, lau.ra is a producer and singer/songwriter who has become a beacon for diversity in clubland. She’s also the founder of Wonk, a club and community-driven brand aimed at creating equity for women, trans, and non-binary artists. The inclusive, back-to-basic ethos sitting at the core of her monthly party in London also exudes from her diverse productions ranging from glam-loaded house grooves to nasty bassline tunes. Her music has enjoyed an outpouring of BBC Radio 1 support from Pete Tong (‘Essential Mix’), Danny Howard, Sarah Story, Jerimiah Asiamah, and Sian Eleri, as well as plays from KCRW, Triple J, Rinse FM, and Kiss FM UK. She recently made her US debut with a show as support for Odd Mob at the Hollywood Palladium, and is coming off performances at Boomtown, BBC Radio 1 Dance x at Ibiza Rocks, and Silverworks London.
Beyond the dancefloor, her sound has reached global audiences through high-profile sync placements with ‘Love Island,’ ‘NBA 2k,’ Red Bull, Disney’s ‘Good Trouble,’ and ‘Inventing Anna’ on Netflix.
With “Champagne,” lau.ra’s distinctive energy and inventive sound shine through as she continues to craft unique club records worth toasting about.
lau.ra’s new single “Champagne” is available on all platforms via IN/ROTATION Records.
