The UK-Producer Revives the Labels’ Heavier Melodic Sensibilities Across 4-Originals
Rider Joins Lee Burridge, Tim Green, & Lost Desert at Upcoming ADID Show at Soho Garden, Dubai
All Day I Dream has pioneered an imaginative blend of melodic house music that explores a spectrum of emotion and energy. On its latest 2022 release, The Final Straw EP from the UK’s Jim Rider, the imprint showcases the heavier, upbeat side of its sonic palette.
The title track opens an EP led by intention, accenting a time in the producer’s life where he was disillusioned with his day job and intent on pursuing music full time once again. “The Final Straw” includes a romantic, husky narrative delivered by Namibian vocalist “Black Soda” (AKA Annely Ickua). Here we find him pulling from his musical upbringing – melodic elements afforded to him by his Mother, a folk musician and singer, and his focus on percussion fueled by his background as a drummer.
Rascals” is a follow up to “Fools” from Jim’s 2021 Beatport category #1 EP “Popcorn & Politics”. It pays homage to the classic 1950s American TV show “Little Rascals” with eccentric keys and playful percussion alongside dazzling, eccentric elements from keys to tropical-inspired marimbas. “Los Que Caen,” as the name suggests, is inspired by Rider’s love of latin music and percussion and includes a heavy bass guitar riff, bouncy synths and a harp-led rhythm section. EP closer “The Cypriot” blends lead flute lines with plucky synths and a driving bassline while sporadic haunting vocal ad-libs and delayed keys add decoration to the track.
Jim Rider has been a key figure in London’s Electronic Music scene throughout the years as a DJ, producer and promoter. After an extended break from the studio, Jim revived his artistic drive in incredible fashion. With releases on Kindisch, Akbal Music, Lee Burridge’s surging TRYBESof, Tale & Tone, and the launch of his own label Signs, Rider has the attention of the dance community’s most influential tastemakers.
2022 looks set to be Jim’s breakout year with his biggest releases to date on All Day I Dream, TRYBESof, The Soundgarden, Tale & Tone, Signs and more, in addition to shows in the US, Mexico, Canada, Dubai, Ibiza and at home in London.
All Day I Dream is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary of events and curation. The label’s ethos has always come from a place of love, freedom, creativity and beauty – pioneering a whimsical and melodic style of house music that has made a massive impact on dance music as a whole. Melodic and Organic house have since become their own genres on Beatport, and many other labels have followed suit sonically. Bringing together like minded artists who make and play gorgeous music, as well as a beautiful community of dreamers, All Day I Dream has led the way in inspiring the path that many others continue to follow.
Now, the illustrious outfit is calling those seeking a new kind of experience, and its first-ever camping event. On May 12-15 2022, All Day I Dream will take over the lush shores of California’s Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale, California, with four days and three nights of DJ sets, live music, yoga, and more. ADID’s typical one day show curation will transcend for a weekend concentrated on wellness, and inspiring all who attend to dream.
