Life on Planets Teams Up with Rules Don’t Apply on ‘Nomad Lyfe’ EP

LoP fuses R&B, soul, house, and conscious-driven lyricism for an electrifying mix for the dancefloor.,

House music has seen a reinvigoration in recent years via progressive creatives seeking to fuse classic disco, soul, funk and R&B with modern electronic sensibilities meant to relate to dance floors everywhere. At the forefront, artists like Walker & Royce have strove to lead this diverting wave of music via their label Rules Don’t Apply. For its latest release, the imprint joins forces with true-blue creative Life on Planets. Explore wayfaring creativity and full-fledged euphoria via the Nomad Lyfe EP, out January 21st.

Nomad Lyfe is a two-sided EP featuring vocal led, dynamic dancefloor tracks. The project leads with the title track, which opens behind funky, static basslines. “Don’t know where I’m about to stay tonight – all I know is Imma be alright” sets the tone for a DIY adventure in sound and intention. The lyrics proffers listeners to find independence in living their “Nomad Lyfe,” paralleled by freewheeling creativity experienced in the production. “UDidIt2Urself” is the B-side track on the EP – where fans will find more R&B-enthused production accented by melodic elements and dazzling arps.

The project was written in Baltimore – Life was living in an old row-house run by art collective, The Holy Underground. Paired with samples and virtual synthes, the producer used pitched down guitar and vocals recorded in his bedroom to create the final product. This accents his performance setup, which is a hybrid of DJ/live sets that include singing, guitar and spinning a wide array of influences. Most recently, he brought this to life on the road at Dirtybird Campout, playing live with Lubelski.

Quote from Life on Planets:

Nomad Lyfe was written to chronicle one of my first solo tours and my life since starting LOP as a solo outfit. Between studio sessions, gigs, visiting family and friends, I was never home for more than a couple days. It seems there are an increasing amount of people doing the same during these unprecedented times and I hope it gives them a sense of camaraderie and joy.”

Life on Planets is a fusion of R&B, soul, house, and conscious-driven lyricism that provides merit to connect with music lovers and dancefloors regardless of identity or genre. Life’s mission is to convey consciousness, love and peace–sprinkled over groovy tones and rhythms. His journey originated from hustling music on the streets to performing at nightclubs and festivals around the country. Emerging from NYC’s bustling nightlife, the producer first teamed up with Soul Clap’s and Wolf + Lamb’s Crew Love Records to provide a home for his first releases. Touring with artists like Wolf+Lamb and Soul Clap, Life on Planets began connecting with audiences due to his musicality and penchant for honing the mic.

Walker & Royce have defined their career with three simple words: Rules Don’t Apply. This ethos is reflected in their genre-straddling studio output, and in their eponymous radio show, which puts other risk takers on display. Walker & Royce took their Rules Don’t Apply motto to new heights in 2021 with their new record label. The duo’s first release saw Dances With White Girls drop the boisterous single “Skinny Dipping,” as well as the debut of its two-sided SPLITS series, which offers two singles from two artists that are paired and released as an EP.

SPLITS 001 debuted the release series via a collab from VNSSA and Lenny Kiser, as well as the clamored for club banger “Animals,” a single from W&R and Ardalan’s collab project, Escapade. SPLITS 002 offered up groovy releases from Canadian-veterans Smalltown DJ’s and Luke Andy’s enigmatic track, “Love Drug.”

Rules Don’t Apply is a fitting progression in Walker & Royce’s artistic journey. With a focus of quality and innovation regardless of genre or style, they can now focus their decade-plus of underground influence into nurturing the next generation of trendsetters.
