Lil’ Red & The Rooster Release Mr. Saboteur EP – A Soulful Prelude to Their Forthcoming Album 7 Out Today on Lil’ Red Records

International blues-soul duo Lil’ Red & The Rooster unveil their brand-new EP Mr. Saboteur, out today on Lil’ Red Records. Serving as a powerful introduction to their upcoming full-length album 7 (due August 22), this four-track EP offers a rich, retro-modern mix of groove, grit, and lyrical depth—rooted in the duo’s signature blend of blues, jazz, soul, and gospel.

Listen in here:

At the heart of the EP is its title track, “Mr. Saboteur (aka Do the Donut),” a playful yet poignant meditation on self-sabotage and emotional patterns, featuring vocals from Empire vocal producer Jeff Morrow in the role of the elusive Saboteur. With its infectious swing and cinematic flair, the track reveals the duo’s ability to fuse theatricality with soul, inviting listeners into a narrative space where insight and rhythm intertwine.

Also featured is “Is This Heart Taken,” the first-ever co-write between Lil’ Red and Grammy-winning songwriter Terry Abrahamson (Muddy Waters). The track adds a sultry, emotionally raw layer to the EP’s palette, anchored by Pascal Fouquet’s warm guitar phrasing and the unmistakable touch of Bobby Floyd on B3 organ.

Rounding out the EP is the previously released fan favorite “Stack ’Em Up Baby,” a timeless stomper that blends vintage soul swagger with cheeky empowerment, and the hauntingly beautiful “Melancholy Mood,” a smoky slow-burn that showcases Lil’ Red’s expressive vocals and the group’s command of dynamic storytelling.

Mr. Saboteur is not only a teaser for what’s to come on 7, but a fully realized work in its own right—thoughtfully produced, emotionally resonant, and musically rich. With the full album arriving August 22, this EP offers a compelling glimpse into a body of work defined by its depth, collaboration, and soul-rooted authenticity.
