Lloyd Barwood debuted on this label late last year and continues to mark himself out as one of prog and melodic’s most exciting new talents. His synth craft is second to none as he explores both light and dark moods and grooves that have won support from greats like Henry Saiz and Eelke Kleijn. The London-based DJ and producer has already made his mark on AXEPT Records, Controlled Substance and Stripped Digital and now follows up his recent ‘Edhoes Through You’ EP with another tasteful two-tracker.
Says Lloyd of the new release, “‘Nothing Like It Was’ was written specifically for my first ever set handing the decks over to Sasha in Liverpool back in February. I wanted to write a record that captured the melodic essence of Sasha’s sets whilst staying true to myself. What’s special about the record creatively is that the chord progression evolves every four bars, giving it a feeling of constant movement and evolution. ‘Maneouvres In The Dark’ flips the script and is a much darker, peak-time roller that gives you more of a heads-down vibe than hands in the air. The contrast between the light and dark sides of the two records gives the EP its own unique identity.”
The magnificent ‘Nothing Like It Was’ opens with a bright, uplifting energy that is subtly euphoric and designed for a real release of emotion in the club. The drums are meticulously designed and carry you upwards amongst scintillating melodies and widescreen chords that sparkle above the clouds. ‘Manoeuvres in The Dark’ has a more driving energy and expressive cosmic melodies that spray through the mix. The synths are taught, and the bassline grips you tightly as chunky drums weight the groove for late-night dancing.
